It is not essential to have a Vehicle's Registration Document to get it registered in the UK.
So, if you are holding off on trying to import the vehicle with because there is no log book best to get at it, as it at least a 3 month process as is.
Need any help give me a shout. 😁

This page has been on the go a month today, 😀 plenty of contact from people with plenty of questions and plenty of explanations handed out.

I have re-imports, IVA's and a couple of vintage Volvo imports on the go at the minute.

If you could give the page a like and share to help others get their trucks on the road it would be much appreciated!

Have you bought an Irish truck and think it may have been in the UK before.
If so, contact me and I will check it out for you. This will cut out the IVA process leaving a shorter turnaround time to get it re-registered and on the road. 🚛 🤠

Tip #4 When Buying a Vehicle from Europe

VAT, Import Duty, and Commodity Code

Europe to England Scotland and Wales

The Commodity Code for a 2nd Hand Truck is 87042299
As of today 22/11/22, there is no Import Duty on 2nd Hand Trucks imported from Europe. This can change so it is wise to check whenever you purchase a vehicle.
You will be charged 20% VAT on the invoice total inclusive of VAT (if applicable) and 20% on the total shipping invoice inclusive of VAT.

Example. A UK VAT registered business purchases a 2nd Hand vehicle from a European VAT registered business.
The invoice total for the truck comes to £30000.
The invoice total for shipping is £500.
£30500 + 20% = £6100.
£6100 will be the import VAT needing paid.

This is a brief guideline to go off whenever planning out costs.

Tip #3 when buying a vehicle from Europe.

Make sure the truck you are buying is how the truck left the factory. Slight modifications to appearance such as air horns, and spot bars etc won't matter much but modifications to the wheelbase, steering wheel position and rigid to artic conversions can be very costly to the point where it is not even worth the hassle.

Example, I had a customer who bought an Artic T-Cab Scania 114. The DVSA wouldn't process the application due to the vehicle originally leaving the factory as a rigid. Luckily that truck was near the IVA cut off point so he will eventually get it registered.

Tip #2 When buying a vehicle from Europe

Keep in mind the import procedure. This will take around 3 months to complete, all going smoothly. So, if you're in a panic to get the vehicle on the road 100% legally, that will be your time frame.

Check back for Tip #3 on truck selection, and how modifications can delay and sometimes cease the process completely.

If you know someone who needs help with their import tell them to give me a shout.

Tip #1 When buying a vehicle from Europe.

Used Truck Dealers will usually give you the option of delivering your truck to a European Port.
If you get the vehicle shipped into Dublin, you will not have to pay the VAT to release the vehicle.
For example, a customer purchased a T-Cab Scania with a value of £100000, at Immingham Port he had to then pay a further £20,000 to get it released. Although he would have been able to reclaim this money he still had to pay it.
Keep this in mind when you are figuring out how you are going to bring the vehicle home. Although there are other options, this is just one example of how you can keep your money in your account.

I was asked a question today of which I wasn't sure how to respond, so I thought I would try and clear this up in case others have the same question.

"How do I know you are legitimate and not a scam?"

Importing trucks isn't a quick process, it is split across multiple Government Agencies including HMRC, DVLA, DVSA and DVTA.
From start to finish, it takes approx. 3 months all going well.
Information is exchanged between myself and the customer constantly throughout the process. I will depend on you to complete tasks and you will depend on me to complete tasks correctly and quickly. I will be working with you through all stages including NOVA, MOT, IVA and Registration.
There will come times where you; the customer, will have to pay the above agencies fee's. These fees will be paid directly to them and all fees can be found online on government websites. I will also let you know in advance of costs etc. so you will know what to expect.

I usually only ask for my payment at the very last step which is before the application is sent off for registration. This can change if the customer is deliberately stalling, at this point I will request money for any previous work carried out.

This isn't a pay me money and you will receive the V5 kind of deal. This is a service of legitimately acquiring a tax book through the process of which has been laid out by the above agencies. It isn't a great process by any means but it is the one we have to deal with.

Truck from Europe to UK = 3 Months
Truck from Europe to Republic of Ireland = 1-2 days

It is what it is :)
