Chicken wine: finger licking good.

We love an unexpected collaboration. It stops you in your tracks and disrupts the ordinary, helping both brands that dare to step out of their comfort zone.

The latest is the story of a London bank holiday pop up: KFC's collaboration with La Vieille Ferme.

Two genius strands of PR running simultaneously.

First, is knowing where you sit within your audience. La Vieille Ferme know the English aren't even trying to pronounce the name, instead dubbing the rosé 'chicken wine' after the little fella on the label.

They've embraced it and they've run with it, even temporarily adopting the name on the bottle for a PR stunt a few years ago.

Imagine if they hadn't.

They probably wouldn't have joined this sold-out collab, the second strand to this genius PR strategy.

They probably wouldn't have been one of the most talked about, viral wines in the country.

And they probably wouldn't be one of the biggest selling rosé' in the UK with sales increasing 51% sales year-on-year (at it's peak a bottle was being sold every 5 seconds!)

PR lessons: Understand what your audience thinks of you, not just want your brand guidelines say. Sometime you have to give the people what they want - but not what they expect.

I'm off to get my Chicken Wine hat from Etsy.

Are you sitting on a gold mine of stories but are too close to it to see it as news?

We had a client who introduced a new technology that significantly improved their service and delivered better results.

The business viewed it as something to celebrate internally but didn't realise its value as an external headline. Actually, it was exactly the kind of news their potential clients wanted to hear about.

A story they weren't even going to release ended up generating 30 pieces of coverage across target publications, working towards cementing them as a trusted authority in the industry.

They're not alone. We often see businesses generate insights every day, sometimes even pay for research and collect data but don't know what to do with it or don't realise it's value.

What you see as every day workings of your business could actually be really interesting to journalists and your audience.

Next time something changes in your business, ask yourself:
Is this surprising?
Does it signal a wider trend?
How does it affect people?
Is this new or unique in our sector?

You might find your news is far more interesting to the wider industry that you first realised.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Still not sure if something's newsworthy?

For our clients, we know their business inside and out, we know where they sit in the industry and where they want to be.

Our 360 view bridges the gap between you, journalists and your audience, extracting information you already have and making it newsworthy, suitable for the right publications and speaking directly to your audience in a way that connects.

We know what is news. Equally we know what isn't.

If you need help uncovering your gold mine of content, get in contact today.

🚶‍➡️🚴Debbie Staveley is running bClear, but where's she running off to when she's not? And how is she getting her miles in for Radiotherapy UK?

"I’m always happier when I have a challenge to work towards, so it's been a great excuse to get my miles in while raising money for Radiotherapy UK this summer. I've hiked mountains and kayaked across lakes in Montenegro and Croatia, danced at foam parties with my granddaughter and run the grandparent race at her sports day. I love a local festival in the sunshine and we're very lucky in this area to have so many, including the Bristol Balloon Fiesta and beer and cider festivals.

When there's not a festival on, I'll be cycling to Bristol, walking the Portishead coastal path, doing exercise classes or swimming at the local outdoor pool."

She's at the top of the team leaderboard but can she hold on to her place with 1 week to go! 1729 miles is the equivalent of 66 marathons.

Why should B2C have all the fun? B2B comms often get a bad rap for being emotionless and formal. It seems like all the fun stuff goes out the window; it's all about logic, facts and figures.

But people have emotions, even at work. Read our blog for how to add a little zest to your B2B communications.

Coca-Cola have just announced a "visual identity refresh". Imagine if they announced it like a B2B brand.

But people do NOT buy the best product.

People do NOT buy based on how great the features are.

People DO buy based on how it solves their problems and how it makes them feel.

B2B is guilty of being bland and corporate, but people in business have emotions too!

Coke's latest update has leaned into making their branding bigger, bolder and more consistent.

They didn't put the news out by telling us a bunch of impressive stats or features, instead they've sold us the feeling and the dream.

Coca-Cola is no stranger to evoking emotions year round:
🎅They conjure the magic of Christmas
😁They show the feeling of joy
🌴They get you to imagine sitting on a beach with a friend

It’s true that B2B buyers often have different priorities than your average consumer. They’re focused on solving business problems, increasing efficiency and often, cutting costs. They’re also less likely to make an impulse buy on the spur of the moment.

But they’re still people and people are swayed by emotions.

What do you want to see more from B2B businesses?

🚶‍♂️🎳 Ashley Robertson: birthday edition! What has he been doing to celebrate and how has been getting his miles in for Radiotherapy UK?

“The main contributor to my miles has been trips to London for concerts, whether it's Luke Combs at Wembley or a birthday treat for my Mum seeing the great James Taylor at The O2. Despite the possible gains, I opted for the superfast lift for our trip up The Shard! 😂

I've also been competing in our local Summer skittles league, taking lunchtime trips around the lake grounds in Portishead, celebrating my 32nd birthday and have been deep in superhero training camp with my 3-year old son. I vote that they add a 'fighting baddies' category to the activity tracker!!”

The team is completed their target already! How far can we push it by the end of August?
