Little Kanga Ltd - Management Consultants

Little Kanga Ltd - Management Consultants Consulting firm that specialises in startup and SME growth and leadership development. Little Kanga was founded in 2015 by Becky Lodge.

A degree and CIM qualified Founder and Director, with a 30- year career history in STEAM based markets as an international sales and marketing director. Becky has spent her entire life building businesses and revenue from start-ups to SMEs and large multi-nationals. She was initially trained by Tesco on their graduate scheme and later was recruited to a specialist clothing design arm of Alexandra

Workwear (dealing with multi-million pound contracts at the age of just 24) and she has also worked with brands such as Disney and Ferrari in the promotional clothing space worldwide. Shortly before starting up her business in 2015, she was an EMEA Sales Director for a US based broadcast software company and also worked in engineering infrastructure in technical markets. In 2015 she founded Little Kanga Ltd, a management consulting practice specialising in digital innovation, start-up incubation and entrepreneurship for universities and governments worldwide. Becky then founded the online and digital business support brand ‘StartUp Disruptors’ a subscription community that helps early- stage start-ups and aspiring business owners to fund and scale their businesses via world-class business education at an accessible price point (starting from just £19.99 a month for online support and expertise). This brand has changed the face of business support across the UK and has created a new market niche. Having attended hundreds of outdated networking events, mainly attended by ‘men in suits;’ Becky soon witnessed financial exploitation of women and those with additional needs and charlatans were openly operating in the local area, selling people things they neither needed or wanted at that stage of their business journey. So, she set out to change the landscape of business support and deliver it in a totally different and accessible way, through online meetings and social media groups. But this was no ordinary ‘guru’ – the learning and education was to be backed by some of the best resources and information available globally through partners that ‘really know their stuff’, including universities and venture capital funding partners; qualified accountants and media giants. Started with 9 people in a pub in Portsmouth in 2016 Becky and the team grew the membership community via social media to 150 members in year one and now the community has over 50,000 social media followers and 2,000 members on Facebook, via a subscription based service for £19.99pcm that allows people to access to qualified experts at a fraction of the normal costs for business coaching, advice, support and community, PR and advertising and entrepreneurship education for first time business owners. This has now become known as the ‘Netflix’ of entrepreneurship education in the UK. One of Sky News 100 Women in business in 2017 (for her work in business on gender parity and inclusion) and contributing author to BBC News online for Technology, Becky was the first tech mentor in the UK to be approached by Faster Capital (Venture Capital) in Dubai to aid their tech start-ups for mentoring. A lecturer in operational sales management at the University of Portsmouth Business School, Becky has an agenda around enabling social mobility and gender parity through making entrepreneurship accessible and affordable for all and advocate for women and inclusion and diversity in business.

‘StartUp Disruptors’ is sponsored and supported by Uber, Funding Circle, Faster Capital, Notion Capital, University of Portsmouth Business School, University of Essex, The Sasha Group (part of US company VaynerMedia), Xebra Accounting and many others. It is fully accredited by the UK universities they partner with and thus far; it has helped over 5000 people to start and scale a business from home since 2016, raising over £2mn in grant and private loan funding so far. This disruptive model has been the result of Becky’s ability to ‘see around corners’ due to her own neurodiversity. Labelled as ‘gifted’ in certain subjects at school and told that she was a ‘failure’ in others, has driven her to be a top 1% sales performer throughout her career. Becky is considered to be the ‘go to’ person in the early- stage entrepreneurship and SME business growth in the Portsmouth and wider Solent region; a passionate future thinker, innovator and social media influencer in B2B in the UK with over 15,000 connections and followers on LinkedIn and 10,000 followers on Twitter alone. A super-connector with high EQ/emotional intelligence and open mindset, Becky is driven to help change the entrepreneurship education space for future generations and help women to create the sustainable businesses they wish to engender.

What does the future of innovation and AI look like?

Thank you to James Pepper and Digital Edge Magazine for this feature about my work in innnovation and tech over the last decade starting the largest online SME community on the south coast of the UK at StartUp Disruptors™️ - Online Entrepreneurship Education and now highlighting our work on helping them by building the first personalised learning and leadership development platform to assist them to start and scale at Desk2Educate Ltd

Particular thanks goes to Sane Seven for her wonderful photograph as part of our work at Women in Data® with Roisin McCarthy Fiona Sweeney and Henrietta Sauleek and the amazing team that showcased my work as part of their 'Twenty in Data and Tech' awards in London at the 02 in March this year. To be recognised as an innovator and changemaker informing policy and also re-defining the start-up eco-system nationally has been a career highlight for me.

To Marionete for their sponsorship of this article, having never met me in person, that our story and mission reached out to their hearts and minds leaves me forever grateful that there are great people, in business and AI in the world that we have yet to meet, but who show quiet allyship to helping and supporting me on my journey is immense thank you to Angel and the team for this. It means more to me than you will ever know.

To my team - what a great gift we have in this Desk2Educate Ltd before Christmas! I could not publish this without Chris Mason Dan Lodge Blake GT Hopley and all of our sponsors and advocates at Desk2Educate who have helped us on the early stage journey so far; including the books and knowledge of Richard Blundell Chris Tottman Gary Vaynerchuk and the man who always helps us from NYC the brilliant connector James Orsini and The Sasha Group. Your mentoring during COVID helped to shape my mindset and offering for the community and continues to drive me to be a better human in order to help more women and neurodivergent people to start and scale-up and gain access to personalised education tailored to them through our tech for the first time.

Locally I would like to thank Lauren James Amy Lee Women in Tech Hampshire; Sarah Eggleston TechSolent Chris Cooper University of Portsmouth Ender Upton Zachary Wilson my nephew and Craig Woodage for their endless support and enthusiasm; also Amy Doyle sandie davis Spark Community Space on the days when I need a cuppa and a piece of cake to reinvigorate the 'little grey cells' as Poirot would call them.

Also one for Natalie Haigh Suki Fuller thank you for your friendship in this space as we know that women are often hard to find and your support means a great deal to me too.

Thank you Jonathan Thornton and Guy Robinson BA FCA for your sponsorship and support as well. Male allies in action!

Thank you for your support and have a great festive season.

A SHOUT OUT!

To one of my favourite universities. Since 2015 when I started with my laptop in their Innovation Space; the University of Portsmouth has been very supportive. As one of my earliest sponsors and supporters alongside Uber when I was developing the concept of StartUp Disruptors™️ - Online Entrepreneurship Education; they helped with resources and support as well as student consultancy projects.

The result was that in 2020 we made Portsmouth the most entrepreneurial city in the U.K. beating London into second place. Source Yahoo Finance.

Building the eco-system was hard and we held meetings in pubs and at Uber’s Greenlight Hubs in Portsmouth and Southampton. Robert Newman when he was working at Basepoint Business Centres in Chichester helped us too by providing spaces for meet-ups alongside Mark Chivers who was manager at Basepoint in Gosport.

It has and will always been a team game. We have now helped mentor and coach over 10,000 startup founders across the Solent and U.K. region and are now developing Desk2Educate Ltd as a leadership development platform to help our SMEs to start and scale-up online so we will become the private sector one stop shop for all things startup community and learning with a focus on women and neurodivergent people and minorities.

Special thanks to all those marvellous people that helped me back in 2015 and those that are part of our amazing community still.

Here are some pictures of the ‘climb’ in dimly lit pubs and spaces; the thousands of hours and conversations and special thanks to Laura who at the very beginning helped keep me on track.

From a pull up banner in Richmond at the University of Portsmouth Business School to becoming Women in Data®’s ‘Twenty in Data and Tech’ and one of ComputerWeekly.com’s Top 100 UK Influential U.K. Tech Leaders; the power of persistence and hard work pays off over time.

Thank you also to Dame Caroline Dinenage MP DBE who was my MP when I lived in Gosport and first started up; and met with me in the early years to help and support me to live my dream; as a female founder; and Donna Jones for putting funding towards my early B2B events when she was leader of Portsmouth City Council I am very blessed to know so many amazing women and allies.

The Parliamentary Internet, Communications and Technology Forum (PICTFOR) minutes are now available online!

ICYMI I was speaking at the House of Commons recently at the kind invitation of Dame Caroline Dinenage MP DBE; Samantha Niblett MP and Ella Dunham and Kate Troiano

More here 👇🏻✅👇🏻

Samantha Niblett MP, PICTFOR Co-Chair, opened the event by acknowledging Dame Chi Onwurah MP, former Co-Chair of PICTFOR, for establishing the DEI rally as an annual tradition. She thanked those in attendance and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to again focus on critical issues of diversity in tech. She welcomed Dame Nia Griffith MP, the Minister of State for Wales and Minister of State for Equalities, as the event’s first keynote speaker.

Dame Nia Griffith MP, the Minister of State for Wales and Minister of State for Equalities, outlined the government’s current approach to tackling digital exclusion – emphasising February’s publication of the Digital Inclusion Action Plan. She stated that inclusion in digital skills, access to devices, and localised community support is vital for boosting economic opportunity and driving national productivity.

She warned of rising global hostility to LGBT+ rights and noted with concern the rollback of DEI initiatives in international businesses. She reaffirmed that DEI is not only ethically right but economically sound, citing the underrepresentation of those from lower socio-economic backgrounds in tech and the billions lost in productivity as a result. She closed by applauding PICTFOR’s continued work in embedding inclusion across the tech sector and encouraged attendees to remain advocates for equity and fairness in both policy and practice.

Becky Lodge, Founder of Desk2Educate, shared her life story and career journey from working-class Leicester roots to leading an AI-driven edtech firm. She addressed barriers facing women especially neurodivergent and working-class women, in accessing funding, career paths, and social mobility in tech. She urged investment in overlooked talent, stating that economic growth and human dignity must go hand in hand.

LOOKING FORWARD TO...

Tomorrow! I have kindly been asked by Dame Caroline Dinenage MP DBE and Samantha Niblett MP and the wonderful team at The Parliamentary Internet, Communications and Technology Forum (PICTFOR) PICTFOR Administrator to deliver a keynote speech at their 7th DEI Rally to be held at the House of Commons.

The theme of the rally is how to better increase DEI in tech.

From our brief:

The tech industry has come a long way in their promotion of diversity and inclusion, yet achieving equal representation remains a distant goal.

As conversations continue to shift towards digital skills and the crucial role they play in driving economic growth, it is critical to provide individuals from diverse backgrounds opportunities to thrive in the tech sector.

PICTFOR has a strong legacy of advocating for diversity and inclusion in the industry, and we are pleased to host our seventh annual rally dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We will be exploring questions including the below:

▪ What unique challenges does the technology sector face when it comes to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion?

▪ How can we skill the UK workforce for the jobs of today?

▪ What does international best practice look like, and how can we learn from these examples?

Needless to say I am super excited and thanks also goes out to Ella Dunham and Kate Troiano for their help and support in this too.

I am looking forward to being accompanied by Chris Mason our NED at Desk2Educate Ltd and also catching up with Dr Vanessa Vallely OBE, Jasmine Sayyari, Grace Smith, Tegan Broomfield, Suki Fuller, Rebecca Whitehead, Máirín Murray and many others.

This is the largest all parliamentary party group in the UK for tech and we are coming together to discuss the imperatives around inclusion and diversity in UK technology and how we can work to overcome barriers together.

We look forward to seeing you there if you are coming along. Allies are always welcome too, we need your help, support and advocacy.

Thank you to Sane Seven and the team for this amazing photo taken as part of the awards for Twenty in Data and Tech 2025 - Series 7 earlier this year as part of the global Women in Data® event held at the O2. I will continue to work hard to shake-up the entrepreneurial eco-system and help to push the investment funding for women upwards from a woeful 1.8% per annum in the UK.

Let’s go to work 🚀❤️✅
