Feeling a little emotional, so many lovely letters and emails from families this week. Supporting lovely people through difficult times is by far the best bit of my job

From our first moment we know the soft touch of a Mothers hand, she protects, guides, supports and loves. But when she is no longer near we know that her warmth lives on within our hearts. To all who still have their mum at their sides, cherish her and enjoy today. To those who no longer have her to hold, remember her not with a tear but with a smile that she was unique, she was yours, she was Mum xx.

Watching the news at this time of year almost always includes a list of those that we have lost. The list includes film stars, sportsmen and this year it also included the Mother of our Nation, Queen Elizabeth. But there are so many others that we have lost, they are are friends, our neighbours, each of them a Mum, a Dad, a brother, a sister, a husband, a wife, a son or a dughter. Each of them filled the world with memories. So to those we have lost, fly free, to those who remain, allow the memories in your hearts to live on. May you each have a year ahead that includes the things you wish for. ###

At this time of year I like to visit all my Funeral Director friends with little gifts and good wishes. This year as so many face difficulties I have chosen to make charitable donations instead to The British Heart Foundation and to a local homeless charity. My good wishes to each of you are of course still heartfelt.
