Working in Warrington this week doing a site inspection visit as CDM Principal Designer, I couldn't resist the temptation to visit IKEA and grab some cheeky, world famous meatballs 😋.

What have you been up to this week to make the best of your time between meetings?

Is it fair that not having a Safety Accreditation can lose you the contract?

Even when you “do” safety? 👀

This catches a lot of growing businesses out.

Even wheb they have:

🔸️Risk assessments
🔸️Method Statements
🔸️Inspection Records
🔸️Toolbox talks
🔸️Training
🔸️Experience
🔸️They have even vetted their contractors!

BUT they still lost the contract with the larger business or local authority they have been working towards.

All because they couldn't provide the evidence in the way the client or procurement team wanted.

They wouldn't give the go ahead on the contact without an accreditations like CHAS, SafeContractor, SMAS or Constructionline.

Like it or not most larger contractors, councils and larger organisations use SSIP as a filtering process before they even look at price or experience.

It doesn't always feel fair as it is not about whether you are safe.

It's about whether you can PROVE it.

This can be super frustrating for smaller businesses.

The client wants third party reassurance that your systems, training and management arrangements have been independently assessed against recognised standards in the form of an accreditation badge.

Often you have more evidence in place than you think you just need a little help translating the ask.

We help pull you out of bear traps. 👀

Have you applied for a Safety Accreditation like CHAS, SMAS, SafeContractor or Constructionline and are they drilling holes in your evidence?

We are here to help you get the evidence together to resubmit.

You take on all the client's responsibilities but have no budget?! 👀 🦺⛑️

This is where safety needs to be practical. It's about thinking things through and demonstrating planning through your documentation.

CDM duties are going to be there on EVERY project, but they can be proportionate.

Remember we are always at the end of the phone.... 📲

Welcome back to returning member JPC Decor, a well established domestic and commercial decorators that operates nationally and has done so for 23 years.

We are looking forward to working with John and the team again.

Are you wanting to work with bigger clients?

One of the first things procurement teams ask for is a Safety Accreditation like CHAS, SafeContractor, or Constructionline.

We often find businesses only start thinking about it when the contract opportunity appears.

But it's all about the evidence it's hard to get the accreditation in place when there is no proof of your safety systems.

We help businesses get accreditation ready before the pressure hits, so you’re not scrambling for paperwork at the last minute to make the whole process easier.

It can feel like being handed a sat nav with no signal? 🗺️😅

With Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations, one minute you are excited about your next project…

The next, you are being asked questions like:

Can we see your Pre-construction Information?

Where is your Construction Phase Plan?

Has the F10 notification been submitted?

Who is your Principal Designer?

Suddenly everyone is nodding and looking around, hoping someone understands and has the answers. 😅 👀

CDM is not supposed to make projects harder.

It is supposed to help people stop, communicate properly, and think about safety before work starts instead of when something goes wrong.

Most projects simply need people talking to each other, planning ahead, and keeping things proportionate.

Not 500 pages of paperwork nobody reads. 🤷‍♂️

We try to keep things practical and proportionate to the size of the project.

Helping clients navigate the journey step by step without the jargon overload.

Good safety support should feel like someone is traveling alongside you, not standing at the side of the road waiting to point out potholes.

Have you done your research 👀?

SSIP Safety Accreditations are not the same, even though they assess the same core Health & Safety standards.

CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline and SMAS are all SSIPs, but different industries and clients often have a preference.

🏗CHAS is commonly requested in construction and public sector work.

👷‍♂️Constructionline is also commonly requested in construction and the public sector.

🏢SafeContractor is popular with FM, commercial, and larger contractor chains.

👷‍♀️SMAS is often seen with construction and housebuilding clients.

The "best" accreditation for you might just be what your clients are asking for.

Before you start, do some research often paying for multiple accreditations assessing you to the same standards could be wasting your time and money. ⏰️💸
