A good business plan should help you:

✅ Set clear goals
Know what you want the business to achieve over the next 12 months, 3 years and beyond.

✅ Understand your numbers
Forecasting sales, costs and cash flow can highlight problems before they become serious.

✅ Make better decisions
When opportunities arise, your plan gives you something to measure them against. Does this move the business towards its goals, or simply create more work?

✅ Identify risks
Consider what could affect your business from losing a major customer to rising costs or changes in your market - and plan how you would respond.

✅ Plan for growth
Growing without enough cash, staff or infrastructure can create just as many problems as not growing at all. A business plan helps you prepare.

✅ Keep yourself accountable
Review your plan regularly. Compare where the business actually is against where you expected it to be and adjust accordingly.

If you haven’t looked at your business plan for a while, now might be a good time to ask:

Where do we want the business to be this time next year - and what needs to happen to get us there?

⏰ MTD for Income Tax deadline reminder

The first quarterly update for the 2026/27 tax year must be submitted to HMRC by 7 August 2026.

The update includes a summary of the income and expenses recorded digitally for the first quarter and must be submitted using MTD-compatible software.

Please ensure your digital records are complete and up to date ahead of the deadline. If you need help preparing for MTD or submitting your quarterly update, please contact SBCA.
