Full day of moving people safely, I got so carried away with the practicals which are about 80% of the day I forgot to take pictures 🙄🙄

So here’s the group just as we started the theory section.

Moving people safely is one of my favourite training courses, especially when someone says they’ve done 30+ courses in their career and they learnt loads 🥰🥰🥰

What does the mental capacity act mean to you and your team?

CQC love to ask your staff, what does the mental capacity act mean to you…. And some staff look blank. Then the CQC ask, have you been trained on this?

Staff member says “No!” Not because they haven’t been trained but it wasn’t made palatable or easy to put into words.

In our training courses we try to make things easy to understand, easy to relate and more importantly easy to remember.

For example if you fell over and broke your leg, you would want help and you’d be able to shout for it or maybe use your phone to get it.

You have capacity, the ability to 1 know you need help and 2 the ability to get it.

What if you fell over and were knocked unconscious, would you want help? Of course you would? Can you ask for it? Unfortunately not.

You now for a time lack capacity, because you need help but are unable to know it, and certainly unable to ask for it.

This lady https://news.sky.com/story/flatplan-13569839 has full capacity but has the ability to make unwise decisions.

When it comes to the 5 principles
Remember 1, 2, 3, are all about me (the person you support)
The next 2 are all about you (the person supporting them.

If you’d like real life training that is easy to retain and understand and use when needed, why not give us a call.

• Transparency and Honesty •

This weeks discussion around making mistakes led to a new phrase in the TDF Training phrase bank.

Please no matter what industry you’re in, if you make a mistake it, own it, take responsibility and learn from it.

And the phrase is

If you mess up
Fess up

In Health and Social Care this is especially important

If you want training for your staff that they can get onboard with and relate to and have fun learning give Jane Bennett or David Colquhoun a message via
