A huge thank you to Brett McDonald from Somos Accounting for yesterday’s Spotlight at BforB Chorley.

The session was all about understanding the numbers in your business — and Brett broke it down in a way that made everything clearer. Members learned how to use simple formulae to see how their margin is affecting their success rates, and how small changes can make a big difference.

It was practical, eye‑opening, and exactly the kind of support local business owners need.

If you’d like to join us for a future meeting and learn from experts like Brett, send us a message — we’d love to welcome you.

Hello everyone,

🚨 HAVE YOUR SAY BEFORE THIS BECOMES LAW 🚨

HMRC has launched a consultation that could give it **new powers to recover lower-value tax debts directly from bank accounts through instalment deductions** for people and businesses who have repeatedly failed to engage with them. The Government says the aim is to tackle unpaid tax more effectively, while including safeguards to ensure the powers are used fairly. 📑

Whether you agree with the proposal or have concerns about how it could work in practice, **this is exactly why consultations exist.**

As accountants, we've seen first-hand that tax debts aren't always caused by people refusing to pay. Mistakes happen. Cash flow problems happen. Mental health struggles happen. Small businesses already face enough challenges without the worry of additional enforcement powers.

If you think these proposals deserve closer scrutiny, don't just complain about them after the fact...

**Take 5 minutes and submit your views to HMRC while you still can.**

Every response counts. Whether you're a business owner, accountant, freelancer or taxpayer, this is your opportunity to influence the final legislation.
