Oh blimey! Getting overly familiar with an overlocker! 🫣

The customer has been advised I only service sewing machines. But has put her overlocker in my hands for a deep clean! 🤪

It’s at times like this you’re unsure whether having a good reputation is a positive or negative thing! 🤣

You know those days when you’re building some flat pack furniture and hope and pray that you won’t have any screws left over? 🥴

Don’t hold your breath! I’m going in! 😱

At this juncture… if you need your sewing machine repaired or serviced. Please book in as I’m booking 2 weeks ahead and don’t want to leave anyone in a last minute panic trying to find someone with availability! 😎

Pleased to say I’m back working after my surgery! And taking advantage of the Aircon in the workshop… 🥵 As is the dog!

I am fully booked for the next two weeks! I recommend booking in if you need your machine serviced, especially if, like lots of crafters, your Christmas prep starts in July! 🤯

Ok, so most people would look at us in horror mentioning the C word this early! But if you know, you know! 🤣

I made a thing!

I just want to qualify this by saying… it’s a really easy pattern and most of it was sewn on the overlocker! So it doesn’t count as sewing! 😱

It’s been an “interesting” week and the various bruises are turning a wonderful shade of puce… as they do! 🫣

Thank you all for your kind well wishes. 🥰

I’m itching to get back to work, but not allowed to bend or lift for another week… I will be taking machines from a week Monday again. I have a few booked in already so please let me know if you would like to book a service or repair. 👍

I’ve just enrolled on a mini quilt swap… so that’s a new project for the next few weeks! Here are the 3 quilts I’ve been finishing! Just the purple to bind now! 🥳

What projects have you got planned?

Will your sewing machine join you on your holiday?

Have a fabulous weekend! 😘

Happy hump day!

Sorry I’m a bit quiet, I had surgery Monday and then managed to pass out and knock myself senseless yesterday!

So two days in the hospital and a good hour today having the broken tooth sorted following my, not so elegant parcour off of the side of the staircase!

Normal business will resume from the 25th May. 😊

Chris is probably in need of something stronger than his usual can of Carling and I’m waiting for the box of dark chocolates that he still hasn’t bought me! 🤣

Huge thanks to the Ambulance team who carted my sorry self off to A&E yesterday when I was making less sense than normal! 🫣

Thank you too to the team at Stoke dealing with a sobbing and stressed AuDHD 54 year old who had no idea why she was there all day. 🥺

Thanks to Hugh and Lizzie for coming to collect me and being their comforting calm selves! 😘

And an even bigger thank you to the lovely young lady, (you know who you are!) who in spite of being in there herself was such a calming and soothing presence sat speaking to me and made me feel so much better! You remember to bring that sewing machine in for the free service I promised you. It’s people like you that bring hope for the future of the human race. Thank you! 🤩

In the mean time I’ve taken to my bed with my blankie and have regressed to the age of about 6! 🤪 Whilst Rosey is pretending she hasn’t noticed a thing! 🐩

Sorry I’ve been quiet this week. I have been so busy something had to give… and Social Media was the loser! 🤣

I was asked to look at a machine for an elderly gentleman, who had sadly been sold a “child’s toy”, rather than a nice simple but robust machine that he could use! 🤬

Thankfully, I occasionally get gifted old machines that people come across amongst their parents or families belongings. Proper machines. 🥰

Many of them went to the Ukrainian refugees, at zero cost, a few have gone to teens or students, who need something sturdy and reliable. 🥰 For the cost of a basic service. I feel it’s an honour to be able to support people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to pursue the hobby.

I remembered I had a little Frister Rossman Cub 4… that hadn’t been looked at since it was dropped off.

The gentleman is no longer able to drive and lives a couple of streets away, so I gave it a thorough service, popped in some threads that had arrived with one of the other machines, wound him some matching bobbins and popped in a few spare needles. 😊 Then took it round. We had a lovely chat, tea and biscuits and I learned a bit about him and saw some of the things he makes. 🥰

What an absolute privilege and joy. I hope the machine delivers what he needs and hopefully I’ll catch up with him soon. 🙏

I’m now completely fully booked until the 25th May! So if your machine needs a service, please book it in before I get booked up. 😊

It’s not often I get a perfect illustration of why you shouldn’t keep your sewing machine in a cold or damp location, corrosion can render your machine irreparable. 😔

This particular machine, luckily, is a particularly hardy and robust machine, so was still working beautifully… but you can see how the rust has set in! 😱

I cleaned it and applied a rust inhibitor, but it will always be vulnerable to corrosion now and I would probably recommend an annual inspection and reapplication of a rust inhibitor.

I have 4 spaces to fill next week, before my surgery and back to full functionality after the 25th.

Let me know if you want to have your machine serviced and enjoy the Bank holiday! 😍

I have space for just two more services this week if anyone needs one. 😊

This beauty looked perfect, the owner had been regularly cleaning out the lint… but it had a squeak and started nesting and not feeding properly. 😳

Inside, there was a lot of lint, a couple of needle tips and a thread, that had become wound extremely tightly in the mechanism, causing the squeak! 🫣

Now, firstly, let me reassure you, this is NORMAL! 😊 so much is happening inside the machine that unless you have an old vintage machine… you wouldn’t see it!

That’s why, any change in the noise from your machine that isn’t resolved by changing the needle, needs investigating. 👍

And regular servicing is critical to keeping the machine happy. 😇

Depending on how often and what you are sewing… I’m not going to say it needs doing annually - unless it does! For some people 3-5 years is adequate. For others, it may need a strip down every 6 months. 🙂

What you can count on is that I will be completely honest… I would not feel comfortable telling a customer their machine needed an annual service, if all I was doing was a check over and lubricate on a machine used twice a year to hem a pair of trousers! 😱
