It's official ......the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act is coming into effect from 6th April 2025 💜

What does this mean? 🤔

🌟Neonatal leave will be available as a day one right to employees who are eligible for it

🌟Both parents will be allowed up to 12 weeks of paid leave, in addition to other leave entitlements such as maternity and paternity leave

🌟It will apply to both parents of babies who are admitted into hospital up to the age of 28 days, and who have a continuous stay in hospital of 7 full days or more.

Being a mum of a premature baby in 2013 when my son Harry arrived 10 weeks premature, he needed to spend 6 weeks in neonatal care.

The care he received was fantastic, and I will always be grateful for this, but I never thought my maternity leave would start like that.

Spending the first initial days not being able to hold my baby, not being able to feed my baby, hearing the beeps of the machines and seeing the wires all attached to him.

Spending weeks having to leave him there and go back and forth to the hospital. It was hard.

Although this new legislation is something that I missed out on, I am so pleased it will be coming into effect. It will help so many families navigate their neonatal journey and also allow them to take their maternity leave in full as well 💜

It's been a pleasure today volunteering at my old secondary school supporting with mock interviews for their year 11 students and helping them prepare for their next steps.

I had the opportunity of meeting some inspiring and aspirational students who have big plans for their futures.

We had great conversations to learn more about them, their interests, skill set and hopes for the future and an opportunity to provide feedback to each student to help them in their next chapter.

I won't lie though it did make me feel old when I realised I left secondary school 25 years ago 😳😟😳🤪

What would your employees say about their workplace culture...is it a TRICK or TREAT?

Do they feel it's a TREAT as they are well looked after, with good working relationships and a manager that cares, that helps them to be engaged and motivated with focus in their role??

OR

Is it a TRICK where it may appear positive and supportive on the surface but it hides underlying issues like poor management, lack of transparency, and/or toxic behaviours??

Companies with a trick employee culture may promote values like teamwork, work-life balance, and professional growth in their messaging, but in reality, employees might face high stress, unrealistic expectations, limited opportunities, or even favouritism.

This kind of culture can lead to disengagement and high turnover as employees realise the mismatch between what's promised and what’s actually delivered.

Something to think about perhaps?🤔

I've only been back a couple of days from my holiday in Tunisia and it already feels like a distant memory!

A week spent with (mainly) blue skies, sunshine and the sea. It's been lovely to take some time out ❤️

Now today it's time to get back to it, checking in with clients and emails, sending out invoices and planning for the month ahead 🎯

On another note..... it's freezing being back home! I think it's fair to say it's taken some adjusting to the 20 degree+ difference in the weather 🥶🫢

A change of scenery and taking time out is just what is needed sometimes.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Talk HR Club and Kuutch Time Out Retreat embracing new experiences and opportunities ❤️

From meditation, yoga, tai chi, sound bathing, reiki, breath work and sheep herding too!, to name a few of the wonderful activities that we did.

I left feeling nurtured, nourished and ready for new beginnings 🥰
