Hi! I haven't posted here in a while but after coming home from a job tonight I think it's important that you all know that having an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) carried out on any property purchases can not only save your life, but also money as well!!
My customer tonight just wanted some additional downlighters fitted into the kitchen of a property he's owned for about a year now, a straight forward job for anyone really! After pulling up the floor upstairs however I was horrified to discover the extent of the previous owners bodges including copious amounts of junction boxes cross connecting various circuits, single cores being used to provide extra conductors and various loose ends left bare and easily touched. I then decided to take a brief look around the rest of the property and it quickly became evident that the whole property required a full rewire desperately, a far cry from the original job of just a few extra lights!! I guess the key lesson here for him, and you all as well is that whenever you decide to purchase a property a small outlay on an EICR can not only save a big expense on your behalf, but also could save you and your family's life from a potentially fatal electric shock or fire, if only tonight's customer had had one done when he brought his place he may have been able to drive down the price of the property enough to have had the rewire paid for. At least the worst thing to come from this dangerous install is an unexpected bill, and not an unexpected accident! Be safe guys!
