Happy World Food Safety Day!

Taking place annually on 7 June, World Food Safety Day is designed to raise awareness of the prevention, detection and management of foodborne risks.

This year’s theme, ‘From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere’, highlights the importance of using public health data and science-based evidence to drive targeted solutions and policy priorities.

An RSSL icon, Roger has built a distinguished career spanning over 50 years, becoming one of the UK’s most respected food scientists and a leading expert in microscopy and spectroscopy. Even into his 80s, he continues working with us and remains a trusted voice in the industry today.

It’s Allergy Awareness Week!

Allergies affect millions across the UK, yet many people still struggle to recognise the symptoms or access the support they need. This year’s theme, 'I Wish I Knew', highlights a simple but powerful truth: diagnosis matters.

To mark this important week, we caught up with our Senior Food Safety and Quality Consultant, Barbara Hirst, who shared her deeply personal journey with allergies. Living with multiple allergies significantly impacted her quality of life, with daily challenges that were truly life-altering.

After two and a half years of private immunotherapy, Barbara has reached an important milestone - her first appointment with an NHS consultant this week. She’s hopeful this marks a turning point, transitioning her care into the NHS system. The results so far have been remarkable, with a profound improvement in her wellbeing and overall outlook on life.

We are still reflecting on the fantastic discussions and insights from our flagship Allergen Seminar earlier this month.

From fostering a strong food safety culture, to enhancing laboratory communication, building consumer trust and using PAL responsibly, the day reinforced the vital role clear and effective allergen communication plays in protecting allergic consumers.

A big thank you to our expert speakers for their valuable contributions and to everyone who joined us - we hope you found the day as worthwhile and inspiring as we did.

Women in Innovation Award – Funding available

The competition is focused on late-stage start-ups in three high-growth sectors, including advanced manufacturing (including agri-food sector) and life sciences.

You can apply for a grant of up to £75,000 and bespoke business support, to further your ambitious growth plans.

As the year draws to a close, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of Dogs for Good and our sponsored puppy Ludo.

During his training placement, Ludo has supported almost 40 activities and interventions across Inverclyde, helping individuals with dementia and stroke recovery.

Ludo truly thrives when working with groups. He makes friends wherever he goes and is already making a meaningful difference to the wellbeing and welfare of everyone he supports.

His impact was even recognised by the hospital where he assists, who featured Ludo in their Christmas tree decoration competition. We don’t know the winners yet, but we think you will agree that Ludo deserves top spot!

We would like to wish Dogs for Good, the wonderful Ludo and all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

We have been well and truly in the festive spirit these past few weeks, from hosting a Christmas market packed with our team’s brilliant homemade creations, to proudly wearing our gaudiest knits for Christmas Jumper Day!

Thanks to the generosity of our colleagues, together with our parent company we are delighted to have raised an incredible £13,000 for Trussell, helping support people in need this Christmas and beyond.
