St Ives Town Council is reimagining the future of the historic Huers Hut, with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund — and is very keen to hear from creatives across the region.

Below is a link to a quick survey to understand demand for studio space and creative retreat opportunities in St Ives.

If you’re a creative practitioner or run a creative business, please add your voice and share this survey to help shape a new creative resource for St Ives.

Our CKA x Krowji Project Space recipients, Andrew Bryant and Matthew Thomason, will be sharing work developed during their residencies as part of the Krowji Showcase this weekend ✨

On Friday at 11am, Matthew will share new drafts from Trystan hag Eseld, his new Kernewek song-cycle and the follow-up to Arlodhes a Shalott. He’ll be joined by collaborator and translator Elizabeth Ellis for an informal Q&A and a chance to hear more about the process of integrating Kernewek into creative practice.

On Saturday, Andrew will open his studio to share paintings and works in progress from his residency, with a short talk/Q&A at 11am and 1pm. Andrew says of his paintings: 'My stone paintings began when I noticed a face in a stone as I came out of the surf at Fistral. What first seemed a curiosity became a way to question the fantasy of self-sufficiency, and to think about how much we depend on other people and on a world we often treat as mute or merely available for our use'.

Andrew and Matthew are the recipients of the third CKA x Krowji Project Space, which gives artists a month of dedicated studio space at Krowji to develop a project outside their usual working environment.

📢 Arts Lab Emerging Artists – Participant Announcement 📢

Arts Lab is Creative Kernow’s creative wellbeing programme by and for young people, connecting groups of young people with artists in schools and community settings across Cornwall.

Arts Lab is currently working with young refugees and their peers, and earlier this summer we put out an open call for three emerging artists based in Cornwall to support this work, gaining practical experience of participatory arts projects alongside established artists.

We’re delighted to introduce the three artists selected:

✨ Katie Platts

Caitlyn, Izzy and Katie will support Arts Lab creative sessions across Cornwall between November 2026 and April 2027. Congratulations to all three – we can’t wait to see what they bring to Arts Lab! 🎉

We’re looking for artists and creative organisations to host informal, activity-led social events between November 2026 and March 2027.

We’re open to all kinds of creative disciplines and ideas, so if you’ve got an idea for bringing people together, we’d love to hear from you! There’s a budget of £300 available for each event.

🎀 Art Surgery is back - in Bodmin! 🎀

Art Surgery is a supportive, peer-led space where artists of all backgrounds and experiences can share work, raise questions, or simply listen and connect.

The session is free of charge and open to members of both CAMP and CKA. If spaces are available, prospective new CAMP or CKA members are also welcome to attend a free session as a 'visitor'.

Arrive at 1.45pm to settle in

The atmosphere is informal and welcoming, but with a clear structure so everyone gets the most from the afternoon:

15 mins intro
6 x 15 mins slots for people who’ve booked a crit / question / provocation
15 mins group reflection & close

Capacity is limited to around 10 participants (plus facilitators). There are 6 bookable slots on a first-come, first-served basis. A few additional spaces are available for those who’d like to attend without presenting.

Think of it like a drop-in doctor’s surgery, but for artists! Whether you want to share work-in-progress, bring a specific concern, or just gain new perspectives, you are very welcome.

📢 Open call! 📢

We are looking for eight early-career craft and design practitioners in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to take part in free business mentoring between September and December 2026.

Delivered by CKA in partnership with New Creatives Cornwall, the programme is for people who want to develop their creative practice while exploring the business and commercial side of their work.

Each participant will receive two 1:1 mentoring sessions and one in-person group session, with mentoring tailored to your individual goals, led by Tara Ashe of Block Design. This could include pricing and selling your work, building your online presence, finding new markets or income streams, developing your business, or thinking about what comes next.

You don’t need to have an established business or a detailed business plan – you might be just starting out as an independent maker, developing your first products and sales, or already running a small creative business.

📢 Open call! 📢

We are looking for artists and creative organisations to host CKA mixer events between November 2026 and March 2027.

CKA mixers are informal social events centred around a creative activity or experience, giving people a chance to get to know one another while hosts share their work, practice or skills. We’re open to all kinds of ideas – the activity itself can be simple, experimental or unusual, provided it gives people something to do together and creates opportunities for conversation.

A total budget of £300 is available for each event, covering the host fee, materials and venue hire (if required).

💫 Open call for makers 💫

On Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October, CKA will be running a Micro Market as part of Creative Kernow’s Krowji Showcase, and are looking for makers to take part!

The showcase will be a two-day celebration of the wonderful artists, makers and creative businesses that Creative Kernow works with, and will include Krowji tenants’ open studios and Fun Palace events, alongide the CKA Micro Market.

Krowji’s open studio events regularly attract hundreds of visitors from across Cornwall and beyond, making this a fantastic opportunity to introduce your work to new audiences, connect with other local creatives and be part of this celebration of Cornwall’s creative community.

You must be a member of CKA to apply (membership starts at £5/month and you can join and cancel at any time). There is also a participation fee of £30+VAT.

Open call for emerging artists!

Creative Kernow Associates are inviting applications from three emerging artists based in Cornwall to support the delivery of Creative Kernow's Arts Lab programme.

Arts Lab is a creative programme for young refugees and their peers aged 10 to 18, offering opportunities to explore ideas, build confidence and create meaningful connections through the arts. Delivered in partnership with schools and community settings across Cornwall, each project is shaped collaboratively with the young people involved and culminates in a showcase as part of Refugee Week.

We're looking for three artists, working in any creative discipline, to work alongside the lead artists to help deliver the programme.

Selected artists will receive:
– £150 per session
– One paid training day on Monday 28th September 2026
– Three paid project sessions between November 2026 and April 2027

Applicants must be Creative Kernow Associates members, be available for the training day and project sessions, and be able to travel to locations across Cornwall. CKA membership starts at £5 per month - you can sign up and cancel at any time.

The CK team enjoyed a wonderful evening yesterday at Cornwall Museum, connecting and reconnecting with creatives from across Cornwall at the Summer Soiree.

We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about Camila Dixon's practice and listening to her beautiful poem, The Land of Plenty.

Cornwall Museum is a beautiful building with fascinating exhibits showcasing Cornish life, alongside an exciting programme of events. It's a must-visit!
