We had a lovely morning last week talking and weaving with Anna Pope at the Museum of Cornish Life!

The group heard Anna share the story of her evolving practice - from jewellery making to community-led projects exploring the heritage of Cornish withy pots - while also getting hands-on with weaving. It was a thoughtful, inspiring session full of conversation, making and reflection on how creative practices can grow and diversify while remaining sustainable and connected to what came before.

It was a wonderful combination of practical activity and honest discussion - a huge thank you to Anna and everyone who joined us!

✨ If you missed it, Anna will be running another similar session on 29th June at the museum - this one in collaboration with Storylines CIC. The session will explore collaborative practice, community art projects and place-based making through storytelling and weaving activities. ✨

We’re pleased to announce 'Working Together: Town Councils and Artists' - a friendly and informal session exploring how artists and town councils can work together.

Whether you’re an artist who would like to know more about local town councils, or a town council staff member interested in connecting with local artists, this session is for you.

We’ll hear from project and events leads from local town councils about how their councils are structured and how they currently work - or would like to work - with artists. We’ll also hear from artists who have experience of collaborating with town councils on creative projects.

📍 Tuesday 14th July, 2pm-4pm
📍 W14, Krowji, West Park, Redruth, TR15 3GE
📍 Free to attend

The session will be facilitated by the wonderful Katie Etheridge, artist and one half of the duo Small Acts, who has previously worked with Penryn Town Council on a range of projects.

We’ll also hear from Richard James, Projects Officer at Helston Town Council, and Milly Mantell, Events Coordinator at Redruth Town Council, who will share insights into their councils’ work. Additional town council representatives may also be joining us – watch this space for updates.

Creative producer and theatre-maker Guy Watson will also speak about his experience of working with town councils on creative projects.

Following the talks, there will be a facilitated Q&A and plenty of time for informal conversation over tea and coffee.

This event is open to artists, creatives, town council staff, councillors, community project leads, and anyone interested in how local councils and artists can work together to support creative and community life in Cornwall.

Alongside the talk, Anna will lead a weaving activity, giving you the chance to experience her work as well as hearing about it.

This is one of two related sessions (the second of which is on Monday 29th June). Each workshop is different, and you’re welcome to come to either one or both.

On Monday 15th June, we’ll be joined by income generation expert Elinor Eaton for an informal workshop exploring practical, sustainable ways to support your creative practice.

Elinor will explore how artists, makers, creative freelancers and small organisations can think about income generation in ways that feel aligned with their values and ambitions.

The session will look at how to build a clear case for support, communicate your value, develop meaningful relationships and think beyond one-off asks, bid writing or funding applications alone. There will be practical insights, honest reflection and time to workshop ideas together.

📍 W14, Krowji, West Park, Redruth

📍 Free for Creative Kernow Associates members / £5 for non-members
