🌟UPDATE🌟

Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is being introduced across Nuliving Homecare.

Oliver McGowan was a young man with a mild learning disability, autism, epilepsy and cerebral palsy. He died aged 18 following failures in care after being admitted to hospital. His family campaigned for changes to improve understanding and care for people with a learning disability and/or autism. This led to new legal requirements for staff training, which came into force in September 2025.

The training focuses on:
• understanding learning disabilities and autism
• effective communication
• promoting independence
• person-centred care
• recognising and responding to individual needs

Our Training Manager has completed the accredited programme and is now a registered facilitator, working alongside co-facilitators with lived experience of learning disability and autism.

Planning is already underway, with the first sessions due to begin in April.

This forms part of our ongoing work to strengthen practice and improve outcomes for the people we support.

A big thank you to everyone who called into the Nuliving Homecare branch yesterday! 🎁✨

Care staff joined us for gift giving, hot chocolate and mince pies, with plenty of festive chat along the way. We were also pleased to welcome a service user who popped in with their carer and enjoyed a hot drink, a mince pie and having a photo taken with Team Manager, Caroline. 😊

The Christmas gifts were warmly received by staff, who in turn brought in handmade gifts and sweet treats for the office team 🎅🍪

Today we pause to reflect and pay our respects to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

At Nuliving, supporting people to live with dignity and care is at the heart of what we do - and we recognise that the peace we enjoy today was made possible by their courage and selflessness.

On this Remembrance Day, we honour their legacy, remember their bravery and pledge to carry forward their spirit of compassion and service.

🌸 When a little help goes a long way 🌸

We recently had the pleasure of supporting Robin and his wife Joy on their holiday to Brompton Lakes in North Yorkshire.

Joy lives with dementia and Robin shared that he’d been a little worried about how she might manage in new surroundings. With the support of our team, both Robin and Joy were able to relax, enjoy their time away and make special memories together.

Robin described our staff as ‘amazing’ with Joy, saying their help and kindness made the holiday that much easier and allowed him to enjoy the break more too. To show their appreciation, Robin and Joy kindly sent flowers and a thoughtful message of thanks to Alison and Caroline which really made their day🥰

It means so much to hear feedback like this and we’re delighted that they could enjoy their holiday with peace of mind and support. 💐

🤝Recognising Loneliness Awareness Week 🤝

At Nuliving Homecare, we understand the importance of connection and community. As it’s Loneliness Awareness Week, we’re reminded of the value of reaching out and supporting one another.

Loneliness affects people of all ages and backgrounds and it’s something that many of us experience at some point in our lives. Whether it’s a quick chat, a coffee break or just being there for someone, small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

On this day in 1944, 80 years ago, the Allied Forces launched Operation Overlord. This massive assault, designed to retake Nazi-occupied France, is known as .

A series of major commemorations in the UK and Normandy, France have been honouring the tens of thousands of brave personnel who risked their lives for freedom and peace.

Very moving watching the remaining veterans celebrating D Day. We owe them so much and remember those who gave their lives for us.

(The poem here, written in WW1, is still a poignant reminder of those that died in the Normandy landings).
