A little bit proud of this one ❤️

My first canvas, completely made by me from start to finish.

Of all the things I have been trying to learn and pick back up, canvas prints were the one thing I honestly thought I might never be able to do again.

This was Martin’s part. I did the photography and editing, but the printing, stretching and finishing of the canvases was something he just knew how to do. I never really needed to know, because he was always there.

Today I had to work it out for myself.

Measurements scribbled down, the first attempt not quite right, back to the printer, trying again, stretching it, figuring out the corners… and eventually standing back and realising I had done it.

There is plenty I want to improve on the next one, but today wasn’t about making the perfect canvas.

It was about proving to myself that this is another part of From Lens to Print that I can carry on.

I wish more than anything that Martin had been standing beside me while I did it. I am pretty sure he would have had plenty to say about my first attempt! 🥴

But I did it. My first canvas.

I thought I understood the power of a photograph.

Now I know. ❤️

Over the last few months, photographs have become so much more than images to me. They are moments I can still hold onto, reminders of ordinary days that I never knew would become so precious.

And it has changed the way I see every photograph I take, including yours.

When I photograph your dog, your horse or the people you love, I’m not just thinking about creating a beautiful image.

I’m capturing a moment in your life.

Because ordinary moments can become the memories that mean everything.

Take the photograph.
Print the photograph.
Keep the memory.❤️

Big gloves to fill ❤️

Today I am heat pressing, something that was always Martin’s job and something he made look so easy.

I am slowly learning the things he always took care of. Every setting I work out, every mistake I make, and every product I manage to finish feels like another little step forward.

I will never fill his gloves, but I will keep trying to carry on what we built together.

We should have been having our first day in the Canaries today.

Instead, today I found myself standing in front of the heat press, trying to remember everything Martin used to do.

He was the one who knew the settings, the timings and which way everything went. I never really needed to know because he did.

Today I had to work it out for myself.

There were a few tears, and quite a lot of “what would Martin have done here?” but eventually, this came out of the press.

A photograph I took, printed here at Tracey Jane’s, on a mouse mat I pressed myself.

It might only look like a mouse mat, but today it felt like a very big little step.

Small steps ❤️

Another photoshoot booked.
A chopping board to make.
A mug to print.
And a print ordered from a previous photoshoot.

They might sound like small things, but right now, every one of them means more than I can probably put into words.

The chopping board will probably be the biggest of these little steps. That was always Martin’s job. I never needed to learn how to make them because he just got on and did them. So this one is going to be a learning curve, but I am determined to work it out.

Things still feel very different, and I am finding my way through one day at a time. Tracey Jane’s meant so much to both of us. Martin believed in what I was creating, probably on the days when I doubted it myself.

So for now, I am taking the small wins.

One booking. One order. One new thing learned at a time.

And somehow, those small steps are keeping me going. ❤️

From Lens to Print.

I came across this photograph again and it made me stop and look at it differently.

I took this some time ago. At the time, I loved it because it was one of those unplanned moments. A funny expression, genuine laughter and a little glimpse of the relationship between the two of them.

But looking at it now, I see so much more.

Someone has recently booked a photoshoot with me and it has made me think about what it will feel like to pick up my camera again.

I know it will be different.

I have always talked about capturing memories and those little moments that matter, but since losing Martin, I understand those words in a way I never could before.

The photographs I treasure most are not necessarily the perfect ones. They are the ones that remind me of him. His expressions, his smile, the things that made me laugh and all those completely ordinary moments that I never imagined I would one day give anything to have back.

And perhaps that is why this photograph caught my attention again.

It is not about a perfect pose.

It is about the laughter.
The expression.
The connection.
A moment that happened once and was gone.

When I pick up my camera again, I think these are the things I will be looking for more than ever.

The moments that might feel ordinary today, but could mean absolutely everything one day.

I think Tracey Jane’s will be a little different from now on.

And maybe that is okay. ❤️

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for all the kind words, messages and support I received after my last post. I have read every one, and they have meant more to me than I can put into words.

A client sent me this photograph of their finished piece, now hanging in its new home, and seeing it there feels particularly special.

This was the last piece Martin helped me with.

He saw the image when I came home from the photoshoot, and then watched it gradually become what you see here, through the editing, the little changes and decisions along the way, right through to helping me with the final print.

Martin was always there behind the scenes at Tracey Jane’s. He took such an interest in what I was creating, helped me when I needed him and, most importantly, always believed in what I was trying to build.

There is something incredibly bittersweet about seeing this photograph now hanging in its new home. It is the finished piece from a journey that Martin was part of from the very beginning.

Thank you again for all the kindness and support you have shown me.

I am going to keep going, one step at a time, carrying with me the belief and encouragement of the person who was always my biggest supporter. ❤️

I have been wondering what to write here, or even how to begin posting again.

Most of you will already know that two weeks ago I very suddenly and unexpectedly lost my husband.

Since then, everything has understandably stopped, including Tracey Jane’s.

Those who knew him will know how much he supported me in everything I did. He believed in this little business, encouraged me when I doubted myself and was always my biggest supporter.

Right now, I honestly don’t know what life looks like without him, and I don’t know how I am going to find my way through it.

But I do know that he would want me to keep going.

Tracey Jane’s was something he watched me build from the beginning, and walking away from it would feel like walking away from something he believed I could make work.

So I am going to try.

I may be a little quieter for a while and I may find my way back slowly, but I am still here.

Photography has always been about capturing memories for me. I don’t think I have ever understood quite so deeply as I do now just how precious those photographs, and all the ordinary little moments surrounding them, can become.

Thank you for bearing with me, and for all the kindness and support you have already shown me. It means more than I can say. ❤️
