You may already be aware that from January 2027, the qualifying period for unfair dismissal is set to ⬇️ reduce from 2 years to 6 months.

❓ But did you know that this will be applied retrospectively.

πŸ”” ACAS Early Conciliation window doubles - from 6 weeks to 12 weeks.

As of 1st December 2025, the maximum timeframe allowed for early conciliation with ACAS increased from 6 weeks to 12 weeks.

This change is designed to give more time for constructive dialogue before a claim reaches the Employment Tribunal β€” but it also brings new considerations for employers.

➑️ More time for strategic resolution: The extended timeframe allows more opportunity for meaningful negotiation and early settlement where appropriate.
➑️ Longer exposure window: You may be engaged in potential disputes for a longer period before knowing whether a claim will proceed.
➑️ Greater need for strong processes: With claims potentially arising months after the initial issue, accurate records and clear internal communication become even more critical.

This change is a timely reminder that early, proactive HR intervention is often the key to resolving issues constructively, avoiding the cost and disruption of a tribunal claim.

Ahead of the Chancellor's budget, the new National Minimum Wage rates from April 2026 have been announced πŸ”Š

➑️ £12.71 per hour for over-21s
➑️ £10.85 per hour for 18 - 20 year olds
➑️ £8.00 per hour for under 18's and Apprentices

πŸ’· This means an employee over 21, working 40 hours a week, will require a minimum salary of Β£26,436.80 per year.

Now is time to review your current pay rates to ensure that you are inline with the new legislation before next Spring 🌼.
