Coming up in our October sale 🐄

George Smith RSA (Scottish, 1870–1934)
Bringing in the Calves
Oil on board, signed

George Smith made his name painting farm animals, and you can see why. These calves are painted with loose, confident brushwork, yet each one has real weight and character. Look at the one with its head down, nosing through the grass in the foreground.

What we love most is the light. It filters through the willows and catches the water behind the herdsman, and the soft pink hills in the distance give the whole scene a warm, hazy summer feel.

Estimate: £3000-5000
Sale date: 21 & 22 October 2026
