🌱 2 Years of K J Plumley Bookkeeping 🌱

Two years in business — and what a journey it’s been. Long days, tough lessons, plenty of stress… but so much growth. College is finished (for now!), yet the learning never stops.

I’m incredibly grateful for my amazing clients and the friendships made along the way — you’ve made every late night and challenging moment completely worth it.

Here’s to the next 2… or hopefully 20 years of doing the very best bookkeeping I can.

Who wouldn’t want to support farmers, agricultural grafters and rural businesses? I’m proud to be more than a farmer’s wife — building something, growing something, and watching it bloom after all the hard work we sow. 🌾

Thank you for being part of the journey.

From Field Mouse to Big City Bookkeeper (for a day!)

Today, this little bookkeeper swapped her quiet rural village for the bright lights of London and dove headfirst into the whirlwind that is Accountex — the UK’s biggest accounting exhibition!

It was a lot to take in at first (think massive warehouse, flashing signs, and so many suits), but I followed the colourful banners, found my bearings, and soaked up some brilliant seminars. From the latest MTD ITSA updates to CPD-packed sessions and shiny new software… my brain is full and my notebook even fuller.

Now, heading home to my garden and a well-earned cuppa, feeling inspired and a little bit proud. Big days start with small steps — even if you’re a field mouse in the big smoke.

One whole year of KJP Bookkeeping & Admin – done and dusted!
It’s officially been 365 days of self-employed life, and what a whirlwind it’s been!

From launching my own little business to building a wonderful base of lovely local clients (you know who you are – thank you!), it’s been a journey full of spreadsheets, surprises, and strong tea.
Oh—and because I like a challenge, I also went back to college to work towards my next level of AAT qualifications. All being well, I’ll have that wrapped up by the end of the year… just in time for more changes from HMRC (cheers, government!).

Big thanks to everyone who’s supported me along the way – here’s to an even busier, brighter (and beautifully balanced) year two!

Wishing all my clients and followers a very Merry Christmas! I hope everyone gets a little time to enjoy the festive season with friends and family.

Just like farming never stops, bookkeeping and accounts continue even when everything else slows down. The animals still need feeding and checking, but this time of year brings a chance to pause, reflect, and spend more time with loved ones, reaping the rewards of a busy year just past.

Thank you for your support, and here’s to a joyful festive season!

Yep! That’s wellies, underneath today’s clients desk.
This particular client is not agri, but he totally gets it and totally supports it.

Do you understand why?
There is a lot of change afoot, and it will affect everyone in the long run, agri or not.

I’ve been quiet for a while, but for good reason—I’ve been busy laying the groundwork for my new business. Not just a simple setup, but a strong, steel-structured agri-business framework.

I’m excited to share that I now have several fantastic clients and am working hard to meet their needs. I can’t wait to see how the business evolves and grows in the coming months.

Thank you all for following and being part of this journey with me!

It’s been a busy one for me, which is why I’ve barely had my head out of my computer and time to post.

The last 10 weeks have been mostly reclassifying, reorganising, and tidying up charts of accounts for my clients. Most unfortunately start using their accounting software with little knowledge of the differences between an asset, expense, or cost of goods purchase, meaning everything is placed in the wrong basket, so to speak.

A bit like cucumbers really.
Are they a fruit, salad, or vegetable?
We all know we can eat them and they are yummy, but correct classification really does make for a much more fruitful outcome for the client. 🥒

You know your clients are 100% agricultural when their monthly paperwork arrives packaged like this.

I’m not particular about how it gets here, as long as it does. Frequent, small batches are best because they help me stay organised and keep you informed. However, as things get busier, the next batch might come in silage wrap or baler twine!

I’m here to help if you’re struggling to get your invoicing done on time. The VAT man waits for no farmer, and now is definitely the time to make hay while the sun shines. ☀️

I've truly enjoyed working outside this week. We processed 280 cattle through the crush on Monday and another 245 on Tuesday, with a repeat effort on Thursday and Friday. Over four days, that’s 1,050 heads, 4,200 hooves, and 2,100 ears. The numbers never stop.

What’s great about weeks like this is that I get to appreciate what all this means to my clients. Instead of just reading numbers from a screen while cooped up in an office, I get to be in the thick of it, seeing firsthand what the numbers represent and why they matter. It's all about achieving clear, meaningful results!
