I started my first business with plenty of determination—but very little idea of what I was doing!
I made mistakes, questioned myself and learned many lessons the hard way.

That experience taught me that business isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about learning, adapting and asking for help when you need it.

If things feel difficult right now, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. Sometimes, you simply need a fresh perspective and a clearer way forward.

Working 12-hour days doesn’t automatically mean your business is successful.
When you first set up, long hours are often part of getting established. You’re building systems, finding customers and working out what does—and doesn’t—work.

But years later, if every day is still spent answering emails, solving problems and firefighting, when do you get time to grow the business?

Being busy and making progress are not the same thing.

Decide what you want to achieve over the next few weeks. Break it into manageable goals and allocate specific time to work on them.

That time needs to be treated as seriously as a client meeting.
Yes, you still need to keep the wheels turning—but you also need to make sure they’re taking you somewhere.

If social media is taking up space in your head every single day, you’re making it harder than it needs to be.
“What should I post?”
“Have I posted enough?”
“Why didn’t that post get more likes?”
“Should I be making videos?”
It’s exhausting—and you have an actual business to run.
My advice?
Set aside one morning, think about what is happening in your business and plan a few useful posts for the month ahead.
Schedule them and move on.
You do not need to be constantly creating content to prove that your business is active, successful or worth working with.
Consistency is helpful. Constant pressure isn’t.

Someone else has won an award.
Another business has moved into bigger premises.
Someone has announced their “best month ever”.
And suddenly, the perfectly good business you were building five minutes ago doesn’t feel good enough.
Sound familiar?

We see the announcements, celebrations and carefully selected successes online but the whole picture is not there.
It doesn’t show us the sleepless nights, failed ideas, difficult conversations or moments when those same business owners wondered if they were getting any of it right.
Stop comparing the full reality of your business with someone else’s highlight reel.
You have no idea what’s happening behind the scenes.

Social media shows us the launches, the wins, the new clients and the exciting announcements.
It rarely shows us the quiet weeks, the ideas that didn’t work, the cash-flow worries or the days spent wondering what on earth we’re doing.

If scrolling through social media is making you question your own progress, take a step back.
Your business doesn’t need to look busy online to be moving forward behind the scenes.
