With half term coming up, this week we've been helping a family who decided now was the time to add a video doorbell to their existing alarm before going away.

It gives them a view of visitors, deliveries and activity at the front door while they're away. The SecureComm app also lets them check whether their alarm is set and get an alert if it's triggered.

Leaving lights on timers and arranging for someone to collect deliveries are useful steps too.

A quick checklist for this weekend, when the clocks go back:

1. Put a lamp on a timer so the house looks lived in.
2. Check outside lights work and aren't hidden by shrubs.
3. Lock the shed and garage, easy to forget once it's dark by five.
4. Keep keys away from the front door.
5. Close the curtains once the lights go on.
