The diversity of certified sites is just as impressive, spanning food manufacturers in Morocco, to a packaging manufacturer in San Marino. Storage and distribution providers in Thailand and agents and brokers in Australia. It certainly highlights international recognition of the BRCGS standards.

Have you ever wondered “how does the grading system work, for BRCGS?”

With your BRCGS audit result you do not simply “Pass or Fail”, instead it is graded. The highest grade you can score is a AA. Grading is based off the number, and/or the combination of different types of Non-Conformances the auditor has found during the audit.

There are 3 types of Non-Conformances:
Minor - A deviation from requirements where a clause hasn't been fully met.
Major - Significant doubt as to the conformity of the product being supplied.
Critical - A direct food safety or legal issue has risen during the audit.

So it is from these non-conformances, where you get your grade.
AA: 0-5 Minors
A: 6-10 Minors
B: 11-16 Minors or 1 Major and 0-10 Minors
C: 17-24 Minors or 1 Major and 11-16 Minors or 2 Major and 0-10 Minors
D: 25-30 Minors or 1 Major and 17-24 Minors or 2 Major and 11-16 Minors

Uncertified: 1 or more CRITICAL or 31+ Minors or 1 Major and 25-30 Minors or 2 Major and 17+ Minors or 3 or more Major

So it is important to have a robust quality management system, that ensures you are as compliant as possible to score fewer non-conformances!

Although each BRCGS Standard is designed for a different part of the supply chain, they all follow the same fundamental philosophy: protect the consumer, protect the brand, manage risk, and drive continual improvement through a documented management system.

Ultimately, BRCGS asks variations of the same questions of your operations:
- Is senior management actively involved?
- Do you know your risks?
- Have you documented how to control them?
- Can you prove you follow your procedures?
- Are your suppliers under control?
- Can you trace your products?
- Do you investigate problems and prevent recurrence?
- Are employees trained and competent?
