As Christians, we often don’t realise the importance of what we’re listening to and never questioning.

Daily, what you’re listening to is shaping your lived experience because it’s building a belief system in you. That belief system becomes the reality through which you view everything through.

For example, if you believe that God is the One who chooses for you, you’ll never participate properly in the process of choosing a husband.

But here’s the truth; God always wanted you to be an active participant in choosing your life partner. He wants you to make a conscious choice based on your identity, values, purpose and vision. Those are the basis for compatibility, not church attendance or the same tribe.

If the messages you are listening to are constantly handing all the responsibility for your life choices back to God, let me say this to you lovingly but clearly: you are listening to the wrong messages.

Messages that teach you about your identity and show you how to use your agency (ability to choose) under the guidance of the Holy Spirit will move you further along.

Listen to them and change the experience you’re having.

When you’re ready to exercise your agency, download your FREE Marriage Preparation Checklist via the link in my bio.

We have lost the simple art of meeting people and having no agenda about the relationship. It’s why single women (and men) will meet someone and immediately think, “Are they going to take my number?” “I need to take her number.” “Do they seem attractive to me?” “Do we click and get on?”

Talk about putting pressure on a relationship that doesn’t need it. Not every man you meet is a potential husband. That’s an unhealthy lens to view men through.

It’s okay to meet men that you have no agenda for other than to get to know them as fellow human beings.

Enjoy people’s company. Ask questions that allow you to get to know them. Share a bit about yourself. Release the experience from the weight of your desire for a man.

You’ll find that the anxiety you feel at every meet starts to fade from your heart and body.

Marriage was never meant to usurp your God-given vision and direction, because marriage is not the goal. Knowing Jesus and making Him known is the goal.

Every time you seek to fulfil your God-given vision, you are doing exactly that.
You want a man who supports you in doing that, as you support him in doing the same.

That is what a healthy, God-centred partnership looks like. So seek that.

Don’t just wait for a man who will one day make room for you. Become the woman who knows what God has asked her to build and refuses to shrink it to be chosen.

You cannot spot a red flag if you have never defined what you value. The Choose Wisely Toolkit walks you through exactly that: building your compass, naming your non-negotiables, and learning the difference between a gap he can grow through and a dealbreaker you should walk away from. Get yours via the link in bio.

The maths matters.

Some men do not want to financially responsible, including Christian brothers.

Don’t start what you cannot tolerate long term.

Don’t bury your head in the sand or pray that he will change in marriage.

Values matter more than vibes!

Not everyone praying to be married is ready for it, and I say that as your sister, not your judge.

Here are seven honest signs the work in you isn’t finished yet. Don’t shy away from the truth where it is needed. Which one, if any, is yours?

The pressure you’re feeling isn’t a good enough reason to be married.

You have to see the man before you with the eyes of your future. Will this man evolve into a better version of himself and will you be glad you chose him 20 years from now?

A shallow view point often produces a shallow experience.

At some point, you must take responsibility for the life you’re living and what you’re experiencing.

When last did you trust yourself?

Chaos always tells a story. Which story is your inner world telling?

Ignorance isn’t bliss for a believer. In all your getting, get wisdom and understanding.

Divorce is already painful enough without the Church turning it into a permanent identity.

Remarriage after divorce is one of those topics many of us were taught to approach with fear, judgment, suspicion, or silence.

But here is what I keep coming back to: Jesus told the truth in Matthew 19.

But also, The Cross, and all that it represents did not fail. It made grace available to all.

Grace, and the dealing with sin once and for all that it gives, is not weaker than divorce.

A person’s past is not the same thing as their present character.

This conversation is not about being careless with marriage. God honours covenant. Marriage matters deeply.

It is about remembering that the blood of Jesus is enough for the repentant, restored, forgiven believer. In the African church, we need room for conversations that hold both truth and grace.

Because some divorced believers are not running from God.
Some are healed, serving, walking in holiness and are ready to love again with wisdom, humility and accountability.

So, single sister, here’s what I want you to know:

✨Please have your standards and values
✨Ask wise questions and pay attention to the answers
✨Discern carefully, not suspiciously, the person before you

But don’t treat someone as untouchable because of what they have walked through.

Here are some questions to ask:
💕Who is he now?
💕What fruit does his life produce?
💕Has there been healing, ownership and restoration?
💕Is there evidence of godly character?

This conversation is long overdue.

I wrote more about this in the full article. Link in bio.

PS: Save this if it challenged you. Share it with someone who needs a more gracious conversation.

There are many things we were not told about getting married while growing up.

We were told to get married but not taught that marriage requires preparation.

We were told to pray about God giving you a spouse (He doesn’t by the way), but not told that an unhealed heart will cause issues in your marriage.

We were told God will do it but not told that the “it” God wants to do is a work in us.

We were told that the next phase of our lives after school is marriage but not told that knowing how to cook and clean isn’t enough for a godly, long-lasting marriage.

The tears you’re crying before God about your marriage won’t change the fact that God wants you prepared for that marriage.

So, here’s what I want you to settle in your heart right now: Your marriage needs you prepared for it. Not, praying and fasting alone, but prepared.

Then, start preparing. I’ve got a Marriage Preparation Checklist that will help you start your preparation journey.

“I pay for driving lessons, so why can’t I pay to learn how to get married?”

That’s Tolu from the Becoming Married Programme and honestly, she has a point.

We prepare for exams and for jobs. We prepare to move countries. But somehow, when it comes to the very thing we say we long for most, marriage, we are told to simply pray and wait.

I want to offer you something different.

The Becoming Married Programme was never about finding a husband. I have never been that kind of coach.

It is about becoming the woman who is ready and prepared when your husband shows up.

Over 6 weeks, rooted in a Biblical love story, we do the real work: clarifying your values, your vision, how to date and court wisely, preparing your heart and body, understanding your money story, and learning how to make space for another, that is, your husband.

The women in these slides did that work. Swipe and read it in their own words.

This is a year of where marriages are happening. I have watched it unfold in real time already; women in their 40s, first-time marriages, testimonies that keep coming.

The next cohort starts Tuesday 2 June 2026. We meet Tuesdays at 8pm BST for 6 weeks.
