We love our Falmouth office and its views over the town, but we appreciate it isn’t the most accessible space for everyone being at the top of two flights of stairs.

So, to help we have installed a new client records drop box outside our front door. It’s a small thing but we hope it will make a big difference to some of our clients. Plus, it means you can drop off your records whenever you like- accessible, 24/7 convenience.

A Friday thought 💭

When you work in professional services and care about your clients as much as we do, it’s easy to fall into the trap of completing additional, unpaid work.

We want to be helpful, generous, and easy to work with. Often these are the ingredients of successful purpose-led businesses. But when you say yes to giving away pieces of your value for free, you’re saying no to something else.

HMRC mileage rates have increased!

The approved tax-free mileage rate for cars and vans has risen from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles travelled each tax year.

The change is backdated to 6 April 2026 and applies to employees and self-employed individuals using their own vehicles for qualifying business journeys.

Statutory sick pay (SSP) changed from 6 April 2026.

The three waiting days have been removed, the Lower Earnings Limit no longer applies, and eligible employees can now receive SSP from the first day of sickness. SSP is also now calculated differently.

At a time when many UK employers are already managing rising employment costs, these changes are worth understanding.
