⚠️ Important update for landlords in England

The revised Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) came into force on 23 June 2026, introducing the most significant changes to the housing safety assessment system in over 20 years.

Alongside the revised HHSRS, local authorities now have stronger enforcement powers, including a new civil penalty of up to £7,000 in cases involving unremedied High (formerly Category 1) hazards.

The good news? The changes are intended to make the system clearer and more consistent, rather than impose new standards on responsible landlords. If you regularly inspect your properties, carry out repairs promptly and keep good maintenance records, you're already well placed.

Now is a great time to review your properties for common hazards, including:
🏠 Damp and mould
🔥 Fire safety
⚡ Electrical safety
❄️ Excess cold
🪜 Falls hazards

A proactive property check today could help prevent enforcement action tomorrow.
