A big misconception in licensing is that you need a Personal Licence to own a pub – but you don’t.

A business owner can own the premises and hold the Premises Licence, but if alcohol is being sold, there will usually need to be a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) who holds a Personal Licence.

Understanding the difference can save a lot of confusion when buying or taking over a licensed premises.
