🛏️ BEDBUGS — THEY’RE NOT ATTRACTED TO DIRT!

Although there is a certain stigma surrounding bedbugs, they can turn up in even the cleanest homes, hotels and properties. They’re excellent hitchhikers and can be transported on luggage, clothing, furniture and other belongings.

But how do they actually find you?

Bedbugs follow the signs of a host and are attracted by several biological cues, including:
💨 CO₂ – The carbon dioxide we breathe out helps alert bed bugs that a potential host is nearby.
🌡️ Body heat – Once they're in the vicinity, warmth helps them locate a suitable feeding site.
👃 Human odours – Other chemical cues from our bodies can help them home in on us.
🪳 Aggregation pheromones – Bed bugs also produce chemical signals that help them find suitable harbourages and congregate together.

And then there's reproduction…

A female bedbug can produce around 200–500 eggs during her lifetime, with females capable of laying several eggs per day under favourable conditions. Eggs are often hidden in cracks, crevices, furniture and around bed frames.

That’s why simply killing the ones you can see isn't enough. A proper inspection and treatment strategy is essential when dealing with a bedbug infestation.

☀️ Nothing Beats a Sunny Day on the Job! 🐝

Another wasp nest successfully treated this week in Warrington after the customer noticed increased wasp activity around their front door.

In this case, there was no direct access to the nest itself as it was hidden within a wall cavity. The safest and most effective option was to treat the entrance hole with insecticidal dust.

The returning worker wasps then carry the dust back into the nest, where it spreads throughout the colony and reaches the queen, resulting in the collapse of the nest over the following hours or days.

🐀 Did you know that around 80–90% of domestic rat infestations are linked to damaged drains?

These photos show a failed section of drainage that could allow rats to travel through the sewer system and into the fabric of a property.

A common entry point is where the drain passes beneath the property's foundations. Rats can exploit gaps around the pipe and gain access to wall cavities and subfloor voids.
