“Can you just take this and sort it?”

Probably one of my favourite things a client can say to me 😂

A lot of the work I do behind the scenes doesn't really fit neatly into one box. It might be helping to pull together a tender, researching new commercial opportunities, supporting an event, keeping a project on track or simply picking up something that's been sitting on someone's list for far too long.

And I actually really enjoy that side of my work.

Give me something to get my teeth into, let me figure out what needs doing and I'll happily disappear off and get on with it.

Sometimes businesses don't need another permanent member of staff. They just need an extra pair of hands (and brain!) they can trust to pick something up and keep it moving.

Thinking about it, that's probably why “Got a Task? Just Ask!” has followed me around for so many years 😂

Well, here's a blast from the Your Office Pixie past 😂

I came across this old photo recently and quite a lot has changed since then... including the number of medals hanging around my office!

I was chatting to one of my clients recently about some work we're going to be doing over the next couple of months and realised we've been working together for around eight years now.

Eight years of “Michelle, could you just…” 😂

The work I've done for them has changed plenty of times along the way. I've been brought into different projects, picked up new responsibilities and ended up involved in things neither of us would probably have predicted when we first started working together.

That's probably one of my favourite parts of what I do. I get to really know the businesses I work with, how they operate and the people behind them. I'm not just completing a task and disappearing again.

A lot has changed since this photo was taken. The business has grown, the branding has changed and there are definitely a LOT more medals on those shelves nowadays.

The bright pink, however, seems to have survived it all 😂

Getting a reply on LinkedIn isn't really the goal.

Don't get me wrong, it's always nice when someone replies, but a busy inbox doesn't necessarily mean LinkedIn is working for your business.

For me, it's about whom you're talking to and where those conversations eventually lead.

Some will go nowhere. Some will turn into a really good chat. Some people won't need what you offer now but might six months down the line. And every now and then, a conversation turns into an enquiry from exactly the sort of person you wanted to speak to in the first place.

That's the bit I love.

I spend a lot of my working week starting those conversations on behalf of clients, particularly business coaches and other service-based businesses, and there's still something really satisfying about seeing an enquiry land that started with a simple LinkedIn connection.

No hard sell. No jumping straight into someone's inbox with a pitch.

Just finding the right people and getting the conversation started.

I never really know what new project I may be working on when I open the laptop in the morning!

Last week alone, I've been researching new commercial opportunities for one client, looking at how another can follow up on previous interest, working on LinkedIn lead generation for my regular clients and getting stuck into a completely separate project that's landed on my desk.

And that's exactly how I like it.

I've never been someone who'd enjoy doing the same thing day in, day out. I like being given something to get my teeth into, figuring out what needs doing and then getting on with it.

Sometimes I'm starting conversations on LinkedIn, sometimes I'm buried in a tender, and other times a client just needs an extra pair of hands (and brain!) to take something off their list and keep it moving.

It's probably why "Got a Task? Just Ask!" has stuck around for so many years. It still pretty much sums up how I work 😂

August in St Ives… you either embrace the chaos or don't leave the house until September 😂

The weather has been absolutely glorious, town is heaving and I'm fairly sure half the country has decided to come to Cornwall at the same time.

And to be fair, I can't blame them. You only have to stop for five minutes, grab a coffee and look out at the sea to remember exactly why everyone wants to be here.

Working from home means I'm normally tucked away from most of the madness during the day… until the Coastguard pager goes off!

Yesterday I was happily working away when it went, and the callout was right in the middle of town. Laptop down, Coastguard kit on and in the car – then came the fun part of actually trying to get through St Ives on a busy August afternoon 😂

Thankfully, once people realise who we are, they generally make space for us.

I wouldn't swap living and working here really.

Although ask me again next time the pager goes off at 2pm in August! 😂

Anyone else left it ridiculously late to get eclipse glasses for tomorrow? 🙋🏼‍♀️😂

You genuinely can't get them for love nor money at the moment!

Town is absolutely mental, the weather has been glorious for what feels like forever and now we've got a solar eclipse tomorrow evening thrown into the mix too.

I'm definitely not complaining though. Working from St Ives in weather like this has its perks… even if popping into town for a coffee currently requires the patience of a saint 😂

So, who's got their eclipse glasses sorted and who's joining me in the completely unprepared camp?

I don't think I'll ever get bored of this view. ☕️🌊

Today I met a potential new client who was down in St Ives on holiday, so we decided to catch up at the stunning Pedn Olva .

Safe to say, it beats sitting in a meeting room!

One of the things I love most about what I do is that every day is different. You never quite know where the next conversation might lead.

And if it comes with a view like this... even better. If you are in the area, go check it out 🙌🏼

Every now and then I catch myself looking around my office and smiling.

Not because it's particularly tidy (it definitely isn't 😅), but because every shelf seems to tell a different story.

The medals remind me of some incredible races, including one very long 100km day that I still can't quite believe I completed.

The award reminds me how far Your Office Pixie has come, from an idea to an award-winning business that I genuinely love.

Then there are the three screens... where conversations start, projects take shape, deadlines get met and, somehow, there's always another cup of coffee nearby.

I spend so much time looking at those screens that I probably forget to look around and appreciate everything that's happened over the last few years.

When I do, it reminds me just how much can change if you keep turning up.

June already! No idea where this year is going, but it certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down! 😅

The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur of client work, projects, coffee, dog walks and recovering from a 100km race!

Throw in the Coastguard pager going off every now and then, and it's safe to say no two days are ever quite the same.

It's busy, sometimes a little chaotic, but honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Now, can someone please arrange for the heatwave to make its way to Cornwall this week? I think we'd all appreciate it!
