😀I love receiving feedback like this.

It also places my value on more than just 'spotting typos and making it read nicely'. Proofreading really does save credibility. This was a multi-authored report so part of my job was standardising the style to ensure it came across as 'one voice', rather than several. The organisation was then fully confident in sending this off to government officials.

People think these things don't matter, but if you're reading something, you want to be able to focus on the content and message, not be distracted by different writing styles.

Happy days all round!

(And in response, he was a dream client: listened to advice, explained where I didn't understand, and paid promptly!)

A VERY productive morning hot-desking at Saltash Studios.
Why did I choose to go there this morning, rather than working from my home office?
Because:
1. My home wifi was intermittent and annoying.
2. I had 2 appointments in Saltash, 90 minutes apart, so basing myself from the town centre meant that I wasted less time going and coming back, whilst fitting in work.
3. I had housework to do.
4. Whilst the hot-desking area was a calm, distraction-free area, the hub's kitchen was a great place to chat, network and throw ideas around.
5. I have all my work done in a concentrated period of time.

Win-win. 🙌

I don't see the results of about 50% of my work because it comprises confidential reports for a specific audience (I can't even talk about it – professionalism and NDAs abound!) or it's part of a marketing campaign, not yet launched and often for an overseas market.

I've worked on books and websites that do allow me to talk about them and we mutually promote each other's work.

However, this latest project for Birchden Vineyards with the unstoppable Andrea Lindeyer and the very talented Olivia Dunn has been such fun! I've proofread labels, press releases, websites, tasting notes, vineyard signage... And now they've launched and I was beyond thrilled to – very coincidentally – have been up in Groombridge (on the Kent/East Sussex border) for their launch day.

There's no keeping quiet about this one! The wines each have their own distinguishable flavours and I happily helped to polish off a bottle of The Charmed Finch (a sparkling rosé) on a wet Sunday afternoon in Cornwall.

They have a wonderful tasting room, perfect for group tasting sessions – perhaps a networking meeting paired with a tasting?! David Brock maybe something for the Kent chapter of YP?

Take a look at the website because they don't just offer wine – honey and apple juice are also on the menu.

Andrea fully embraced the range of my proofreading services and for a high-end company it demonstrates the level of detail she and the company take in their business. If you're not looking after the small details, why would people trust you with the bigger ones? Proofreading elevates your copy.

Such wonderful feedback.

🚢Military spouses are amazing (I should know 😁) but some have it really tough. I was always lucky because we had a home port and didn't have to move around – others are on the move every couple of years (or more frequently). And it's hard for the supportive spouses who have to find work, knowing that they'll be on the move again.

A lot of us have started our own business, which can be moved from location to location (in the main...some deployments are prohibitive).

A really simple way of showing support to those of us supporting our military families (and, in turn, our country 😉 (bit of patriotic emotional blackmail there...)) is by using our businesses.

Aaaaaaand it just so happens that there's a directory available to you, which allows you to search for what you're looking for.

There is a HUGE range of businesses on there, ranging from the best proofreader I know (yes, me 🙌😜), to financial advisors, to travel agents, to clothing suppliers......we're an enterprising bunch and this list highlights that.

So, if you're looking for a business, perhaps you could swing by this website and have a quick search to see if what you're looking for is there. It might not make much of a difference to you, but to the family behind that business, it will make a HUGE difference.

This makes it all worthwhile. 😊

It was a thoroughly interesting project and another one where I learnt a lot whilst proofreading it! This report was extremely well-written but I still managed to make some small changes that made it better. Amongst other things, I:

✳️swapped some en dashes (these – ) for commas
✳️deleted unnecessary commas
✳️inserted necessary commas
✳️checked that the numbers in the tables matched up with the raw data provided (some did, some didn't)
✳️checked for typos (easily done)
✳️ensured that US spellings (as requested) were used consistently (I caught a few cheeky UK ones)
✳️suggested a few tweaks to the wording of sentences to make them sharper and clearer for the reader
✳️deleted repetitive words in sentences and suggested alternatives
✳️questioned whether using the same title twice was what they wanted (it was, but better to check)
✳️I even highlighted that a comma in the footnotes was in blue whereas the rest were in black!

'Diligence' is my middle name!
