In a world where we're constantly scrolling, swiping and skipping ads, getting someone's attention is becoming harder.

But here's a stat worth paying attention to:

Direct Mail generates an average of 4.5 interactions per item.

And people spend around 141 seconds with each piece.

For Business Mail, those figures are even stronger, 4.8 interactions and 182 seconds of attention per item.

That's a pretty powerful reminder that print isn't just about putting something through a letterbox. Done well, it can create multiple opportunities to engage, communicate and connect with your audience.

And importantly, print doesn't have to compete with digital. It can work alongside it, giving your audience something tangible that can lead them back to your website, campaign or online channels.

Print still has a place in modern marketing. The data says so.

*The figures come from JICMAIL, the Joint Industry Currency for Mail, an independent, not-for-profit organisation providing audience measurement data for the UK mail and advertising industries. JICMAIL's research tracks how people actually interact with mail, using a nationally representative panel of around 1,100 UK households.

We all enjoyed seeing the recent partial solar eclipse from Cornwall, a pretty impressive reminder of the power of the sun.

But here at Deltor, our interest in solar has been a little more long-term.

Our 14,000 sq. ft. solar-panelled roof generates a large proportion of the electricity we use, helping us save over 52,000kg of CO₂ every year.

So while we might have been looking up at the sky to enjoy the eclipse, we’ve been looking to the sun for a more sustainable way to power our print production for quite some time.

Have you ever wondered where the name magenta comes from?

It has nothing to do with the flower.

The name comes from the Battle of Magenta, fought on 4 June 1859 near the town of Magenta in northern Italy. Shortly after the battle, a brilliant new synthetic dye was introduced. Originally called fuchsine, it was soon renamed magenta to commemorate the French and Sardinian victory.

The colour quickly became famous for its vivid appearance and was one of the first successful synthetic dyes. Today, magenta is one of the four essential colours used in CMYK printing, helping to produce millions of colours on everything from business cards to brochures.

It's a great example of how history, science and print all come together in one colour.

Did you know that natural daylight is considered the gold standard for judging colour accuracy?

Our eyes perceive colours differently depending on the type of light they’re viewed under. A brochure that looks perfect under office lighting can appear slightly different in bright summer sunshine or under warm indoor lighting. This phenomenon is known as metamerism, and it’s something professional printers work hard to control.

That’s why commercial printers use colour-calibrated workflows, standardised lighting conditions, and carefully profiled presses to ensure your brand colours remain as consistent as possible, wherever your print is viewed.

1976 was one of Britain's hottest summers on record.

It was also the year Deltor Commercial Printers first opened its doors.

Fast forward to 2026 and the UK has once again been basking in soaring temperatures. Some things, it seems, never change.

While the weather has kept us talking for 50 years, we've been just as consistent. From our very first print run in 1976 to the latest jobs coming hot off the press today, we've remained committed to producing high quality print with the same care, craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Half a century later, we're still helping businesses make a lasting impression, whatever the forecast.

Here's to another great British summer!

The press is only part of the story.

Print finishing techniques such as laminating, spot UV, foiling, embossing, die-cutting and precision folding can completely change the look, feel and durability of a printed product.

A high-quality finish doesn’t just protect your print, it creates a lasting impression and reinforces the quality of your brand.

It’s often the finishing touches that turn a good print job into something truly memorable.

Deltor was proud to sponsor and print the official match programme recently for the Righton Blackburns Charity Football Match, helping to support an amazing cause in the local community.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event raised an outstanding £6,400, with a further £1,300 in Gift Aid, bringing the total contribution to £7,700 for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.

A huge congratulations to the organisers, players, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who made the day such a success. We’re delighted to have played a small part in helping raise vital funds for a charity that provides such important care and support across Plymouth and the surrounding area.

Ever wondered why paper sizes are called A4, A3 or A5?

It is all designed to scale perfectly.

When you fold an A4 sheet in half, you get A5. Fold A3 in half, you get A4. Every size keeps the exact same proportions, which makes designing, printing and resizing much more efficient.

Simple idea, but incredibly clever.

It is one of those details most people never think about, yet it is used every single day across print, design and marketing.

Print is full of small technical decisions that make a big difference behind the scenes.
