As the clocks went back last weekend and we are in the last 2 months of 2021, there is a realisation that time is passing by quickly.
As the start of 2022 comes rushing up the quote is a useful reminder that its the quality of one's life that is important.

Martin Luther King Jr. (Jan 1929 – Apr 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesman and leader in the American civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. King advanced civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience, inspired by his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi. He was the son of early civil rights activist and minister Martin Luther King Sr.

King participated in and led marches for blacks' right to vote, desegregation, labor rights, and other basic civil rights. King helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

As it was fathers day in the UK at the weekend and I understand there is a kickball tournament on at the moment, it felt appropriate to go with a dad quote from Wayne Rooney.

Wayne Mark Rooney (born 24 October 1985) is an English professional football manager and former player who is the manager of Derby County. He spent much of his playing career as a forward while also being used in various midfield roles. Widely considered to be one of the best players of his generation, Rooney is the record goal scorer for both the England national team and Manchester United. He is father to four sons ranging from 3 to 12 years old.

After the last few weeks I had the chance at the weekend for an extended ride on my motorbike. It was good to get out and just go for a rambling ride locally, while dropping in on people and places on route. I quite liked the unattributed quote "Nobody on a motorcycle ever said are we there yet?", but this one from Neil Peart seemed a better summary of riding a motorbike.

Neil Ellwood Peart (Sept 1952 – Jan 2020) was a Canadian musician, songwriter, and author, best known as the drummer and primary lyricist of the rock band Rush. Known by the nickname 'The Professor' his drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency and his live performances for their exacting nature and stamina. One of my hobbies is photography, so it seemed time to include a photography quote. I did quite like the Burk Uzzle quote “Photography is a love affair with life.”, but the one from Tim Walker seemed a better fit.

From 19th May in England it will be possible to socially mix indoors and offer a hug again.
Like many things that were taken for granted in the times before Covid, its another glimpse of normality. Although SAGE suggests embraces should be kept to a minimum, and we should still avoid face-to-face contact.
With that in mind this quote from Steve Irwin seemed appropriate for the coming week.

Yesterday in America is known as May 4th, its also become internationally known as Star Wars day. So this weeks quote has a star wars theme. The quote is from Jango Fett in "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" and seems to reflect the journey I'm on.

Jango Fett is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, created by George Lucas. He first appeared as an antagonist in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, played by Temuera Morrison. The character is a Mandalorian bounty hunter, regarded as the best mercenary in the galaxy of his era, and the 'father' of Boba Fett, a clone of Jango whom he kept as payment for serving as the genetic template of the Galactic Republic's clone army, and raised as if he were his biological son.

Thinking about family this week and was tempted by the Vin Diesel line from Fast & Furious 7 "I don't have friends.... I got family".
However as I've recently been doing some family history research this quote from the writer of Roots felt a better fit.

I'm involved with the local scout group and last week they went back to face to face scouting for the first time in months, extremely grateful to all of our adult volunteers that make it happen. So it seemed appropriate for a Bear Grylls quote, picking up on other themes for this week.
