Yesterday, we had the pleasure of visiting The Robert Burns Academy to meet with students and give them an insight into the wide range of career opportunities available at Browns Food Group! 👋

From food production and engineering to marketing, HR, finance and beyond, there are so many exciting career paths within the food industry.

We also put the students’ taste buds to the test with a blind taste test featuring some of our Tarbert Fine Foods products, including Scotch Beef Topside, Roast Pork and Heather Honey Ham. 🥩🐷🍖

It was fantastic to meet the students, hear their thoughts and hopefully give them a glimpse into the opportunities available within the food and manufacturing industry.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES:
🔪 Trainee Trimmers / Bo**rs
🔪 Experienced Butchers
🔪 Anyone with strong knife skills and a willingness to learn

💷 £13.70–£14.70 per hour, depending on experience
⏰ Time-and-a-half overtime for hours worked over your contracted 35-hour week

There’s also a clear pathway for progression, with a starting training salary of £24,500, increasing to £25,000 as a trained trimmer and progressing to £27,000 as a b***r (based on a 35-hour week). With overtime available to support our continued growth, there’s also the potential to earn an additional £5,000 per year for every 5 hours of overtime worked per week.

Chelsea, a Team Leader within our Despatch department, has shown great commitment, determination and professionalism throughout her apprenticeship journey. Balancing her daily responsibilities while working towards her qualification, she consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and develop her skills.

A special thank you goes to her assessor, Craig Murray, whose guidance and support helped Chelsea achieve this fantastic milestone.

This month, we were delighted to welcome seven final-year veterinary students from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, The University of Edinburgh, to Quality Pork Processors Ltd.

Accompanied by Christina Soare, Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Public Health, the students visited our site to gain valuable insight into the pork processing industry and the important role of veterinary expertise in food production, animal welfare, and food safety.

It was a pleasure to host the group, and we're pleased to hear they enjoyed their visit. We're proud to support the next generation of veterinary professionals by providing opportunities to connect academic learning with real-world industry experience.

We wish all the students every success in their final year and look forward to seeing the positive impact they make throughout their careers.

Earlier on this week we said a fond farewell to James Young and congratulated him on his retirement after an incredible 24 years with Browns Food Group.

As our Store Manager, James has been such a valued part of the team, always showing dedication, commitment, and strong leadership. His contribution to both the business and the people around him has meant a lot, and he’ll truly be missed by everyone.

We hope James is looking forward to a well-earned retirement and plenty of time to enjoy the things he loves. We know he’ll also continue making a difference through Brighten Up Sanquhar, where he’s already achieved so much for the local community.

James, thank you for everything you’ve given over the past 24 years — your hard work, loyalty, and positive impact haven’t gone unnoticed.
We wish you all the very best for the future and a long, happy, and fulfilling retirement.
