A lovely little project we’ve recently completed for the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass Inn in East Yorkshire.

We’ve built a new bespoke gift voucher platform, integrating directly with their existing Northern Retail voucher system. Customers can purchase digital or physical gift vouchers, with Stripe handling payments and a custom administration system managing everything behind the scenes, from voucher generation through to dispatch.

A nice example of how bespoke software can bring several systems together and make life easier for both customers and staff.

That’s a wrap on the unLTD Business Expo at Magna!

A great day meeting businesses, catching up with familiar faces and having some really interesting conversations.

We also had the pleasure of delivering a talk on AI in Business, sharing some of our experiences at Askew Brook, what we’ve built, what worked, what didn’t, and some practical ideas for businesses looking to make better use of AI.

Really pleased with the feedback, and a big thank you to everyone who came along!

Our new exhibition backdrop also made its first appearance. Shipped all the way from China and, as it turns out, comically larger than I’d anticipated. Subtle it is not.

Anyway, the tour continues! Tomorrow we’re off to Huddersfield for another event.

Well, this is nice. Askew Brook is a finalist in two categories at the Yorkshire Tech Awards 2026 - Tech Team of the Year, and somehow I’ve also made the final for Tech Leader of the Year.

The team one means the most to me. There are seven of us in total, based in Scarborough, and over the last year we’ve changed an enormous amount technically - particularly how we use AI, how we build software and the complexity of the work we’re taking on.

I run the place pretty hands-off. Most of the clever stuff doesn’t come from me telling people what to do; it comes from having really good people, giving them room to experiment and then letting them get on with it. So Jack, Matthew, Simon, Rachel, Daniel and Gabrielle - thank you. This one is very much yours.

Awards are in Leeds in December. Now I just need to persuade some software developers to leave their houses.

Another one live 🙌

We’ve been working closely with Sail on the new website for Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit (GMIAU)

Sail led the design, we handled the technical development, and it’s been a really good project to work on together.

GMIAU do incredibly important work, and their website has to do a lot. Legal advice, referrals, self-help resources, training, campaigns and information for people who often need to find the right thing quickly.

Really pleased with how this one has come together.

It’s also our first proper Manchester project. A city we’d really like to do more work in.

How Askew Brook worked with Sail Creative to develop a clear, accessible and content-led website for Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit.

Deck the halls! - New project! 🎄

This is one of those interesting curveballs that you don’t expect to come your way, but what an interesting project it was.

We’ve recently completed a new Christmas tree ordering system for Stockeld Park.

And it turns out there’s quite a lot involved in selling Christmas trees!

The system handles everything from customer orders and tree stock through to yard preparation, payments, collections, deliveries, pallets and couriers.

There were some really interesting problems to solve along the way too, particularly around stock allocation and customers ordering trees for multiple delivery locations.

A very different project for us, and a really enjoyable one to get stuck into.

Askew Brook turns 13 today!

I still have to pinch myself sometimes that the little thing I started while waiting for my son to arrive has turned into this.

Back then I wasn’t trying to create a technology company. I just wanted to work for myself and see where it went. Thirteen years later we’ve got an incredible team, we’ve had the privilege of working with organisations all over the UK, and we’re doing work I couldn’t have imagined when I registered the company.

The last year feels like another turning point. We’re becoming a very different business to the one we started, but hopefully without losing the things that mattered in the first place.

Thanks to everyone who’s been part of the journey, especially Jack, Daniel, Matthew, Simon, Rachel, Gabrielle and Andy.

One of our developers, Jack, has spent the last couple of weeks building… a trading card game based entirely around me.

I wasn’t consulted.

Apparently I now have collectible cards including Emergency Biscuits, Muted, but Decisive and The Unquestionable Fez. There’s also a seaside arcade machine featuring my head and, for reasons nobody can properly explain, a lifetime pokes counter.

It’s completely ridiculous.

Underneath the nonsense though, there’s some really interesting engineering. Jack has been experimenting with how AI can generate imagery and content that fits into a real application, rather than just producing standalone pictures. The result is a surprisingly coherent (if slightly unhinged) trading card game.

Not every experiment turns into a client product, and that’s fine. Sometimes the best way to understand a technology is to build something that makes everyone in the office laugh.
