Most leaders I speak to say the same thing:

“I just need a break.”

But what they actually need isn’t always time away.

It’s space to step out of the constant doing… to hear their own thinking again…

and reconnect with how they actually want to lead.

Because burnout doesn’t come from working hard.
It comes from never coming up for air while you do it.

And for many people, that’s just become normal.

That’s why I’m hosting a Leadership Reset Day on 28th April.

It’s not a high-energy workshop.

From the outside, they're succeeding.

But something isn't right, and they know it.

"I know I should have better boundaries, but..."

I hear this all the time

That 'but' usually comes from a belief that boundaries mean:
• Letting people down
• Being seen as less committed
• Losing influence or respect

Here's what boundaries actually do in leadership:
• Protect the quality of your decisions
• Model healthy working culture to your team
• Preserve the emotional bandwidth needed to lead well
• Signal what's sustainable, for you and for others

Leaders who lack boundaries don't become more productive.

They become less effective, more reactive, and harder to work with, often without realising it.

Boundaries aren't about doing less.

They're about protecting what makes you most effective.

Most people don’t realise what’s actually driving how they lead.

It’s not always their values.
Quite often… it’s fear.

Fear of dropping the ball.
Fear of letting people down.
Fear of what might happen if they slow down.

And from the outside, it can look like dedication.
Like commitment.
Like “just being a good leader.”

But it’s exhausting.

In this video, I share one of the most powerful questions I ask in coaching, the one that makes people stop and really think:

Sustainable leadership isn't:
• Working fewer hours
• Lowering your standards
• Stepping back from ambition

It is:
• Knowing your capacity and protecting it intentionally
• Making decisions from a regulated state, not a reactive one
• Setting boundaries that protect performance, not just wellbeing
• Modelling a way of leading your team can actually sustain too

The leaders who last longest aren't the ones who push hardest.
They're the ones who lead with the most self-awareness.

I know this because I lived it.

In my own exec role, I kept raising my standards and absorbing more, convincing myself that’s what good leadership looked like.

It wasn’t until I stopped and honestly assessed what it was costing me that I realised: the way I was leading wasn’t sustainable. And changing it didn’t make me less effective. It made me a better leader.
