I went for a muddy walk with a friend today who runs her own business. She’s recently closed one business and started a new one, and she absolutely loves it. It gives her an income she’s happy with, more free time than before, it’s helping her get fitter, and she gets to spend her days doing something she genuinely enjoys.

Yet while chatting she said she feels “complacent”. Because she doesn’t have big plans to grow it, she wondered if that meant she was failing.

We talked about what success really means. If her business is giving her what she wants and needs for herself and her family, now and in the future, isn’t that success?

Success doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some, it’s earning more money. For others, it’s having more time, more freedom, better health, or a better balance between work and life. None of those are more “right” than the others.

We’re often led to believe that success means more.
- More customers.
- More sales.
- More hours.
- More pressure.
- More stress.

But why is that the default?

If you can meet your goals, support your life, and feel fulfilled with less stress, that isn’t settling. That’s winning.
