Making Tax Digital is here for Income Tax.

From 6 April 2026, it started applying to some self-employed people and landlords, beginning with those whose qualifying income is over £50,000. This marks the first phase, with additional income bands joining in stages.

This means keeping digital records and sending updates to HMRC using compatible software.

It may feel like a big change, but getting ready early can make the transition much smoother.

Now is a good time to check:

Are your records digital?
Are you using suitable software?
Do you know when MTD for Income Tax may apply to you?
Would your current bookkeeping system cope with quarterly updates?
