This January (2025) sees an historical anniversary which is meaningful to The Manor House.

It was three hundred years ago, in January 1725 that the builder of The Manor House, Robert Wright arrived in the colony of Carolina along with his family to take up the position of Chief Justice. He went on to own plantations and slaves and become very wealthy and his seven children prospered including Sir James Wright who became governor of Georgia before and during the American Revolutionary War and American independence.

“Here is laitly arrived in this province one Mr Robert Wright, a gentleman of large family of both sons and daughters … [they] appear to be very genteel people and to have a good substance. It is said they have now 4-500 pounds in England at a place called Sagefield near Newcastle [and] he has been a member of the English Parliament.”
