Range Rovers U10’s v West Farleigh Wolves
This morning was another double header as part of the Autumn Festival. We played 2 matches each of 25 minute games.
With us going into this week joint top of the standings we wanted to continue some of the good form, with a full squad of 11 players
In the first game the stand out player was Ralph. Asked to play in defence he was supported by Max and in the first half gave very limited opportunity for the Farleigh attack to move through and trouble Rhys in goal. His positioning, forward play and defensive clearances was great to see.
We went into the break with a fortunate goal from Jacob, after admitting he played the ball but the opposition goalkeeper unfortunately allowed it to slip into the passing net.
The team played well and deserved there fortune, but still needed to focus on using each other more as a team, building play as a team and being disciplined in there positions. Towards the end we were forced to hold out, began to panic a little and at times led to several of our own players going for the same ball.
It was a cold, windy morning but the players appeared to be enjoying things.
Into the second game it was a complete u-turn. We did not play anywhere near the level I and the boys know they can do. Following the training session on Friday aimed at moving the ball around and playing 2-3 touch football just was not applied. We were panicking, allowed a few goals against, that ordinarily would not have happened.
This game resulted in a spirited finish and following good interplay a lovely finish into the bottom right corner of the net by Finley as we pushed forward more and more.
It was an unfortunate end, and one hopefully the team will learn from, but played in the right spirit by both sets of teams.
Player of the day went to Ralph especially for his performance in the first game. Other good performances were witnessed from Louis supporting his team and on one occasion sprinting back to make a clearance in what was an open goal.
Again as a team, we shall continue to grow with expectation knowing what they can achieve when they all focus as a whole unit, in preparation for 9-a-side next season and a whole new game playing on bigger pitches with more players and offsides to contend.
Into next week against Barming for the last of the festival double headers before the Xmas break.
Many Thanks to the sponsors for todays game and our away kit
