We’ve been a little quieter than usual on social media recently, but it’s certainly not been quiet behind the scenes at AJS Building & Property Maintenance Ltd.

Over the past few weeks, our team has been fully committed to delivering our ongoing commercial washroom refurbishment project in Barnsley, alongside attending site meetings, preparing tenders and securing multiple new commercial projects.

The photograph shows progress on our current refurbishment, where works are well underway to transform the existing facilities into a modern, practical and durable environment.

An exciting period of growth for AJS.

Alongside our existing workload, we’ve been developing new working relationships with commercial clients, property management companies and facilities management providers across South Yorkshire.

Rip-out has started on our latest commercial project over in Barnsley, with the existing toilets being stripped back ready for a full refurbishment.

We’re carrying out more and more commercial work across Barnsley, Sheffield and the surrounding areas, and we’re looking to build on that further.

This utility room & downstairs W/C has had a full transformation, giving the customer a much cleaner, brighter and more practical space.

From the plumbing and fitting through to the finishing touches, it’s another project completed by the AJS team and ready to be put to good use. 🔨🏠

Decorating & wallpapering completed by the customer.

It’s been another busy one for the team today…

📍 Stocksbridge – new padstones installed, making sure the steelwork is properly supported and everything is brought up to the standard it should be.

📍 Grenoside – leak investigated, traced and identified ready for the correct repair rather than simply guessing where the problem is coming from.

📍 Thurgoland – the finishing touches completed on a WC & utility room transformation, bringing another AJS project over the line. ✅

🔩 TODAY’S JOB TOOK AN UNEXPECTED TURN…

Today we installed the new steel required to correctly support the chimney breast.

But while carrying out the work, we uncovered something that definitely needed addressing.

The existing steel supporting the wall above had been installed and seated onto two small pieces of stone instead of proper padstones. 👀

It might have been hidden away and left like that for years — but once we uncover something that isn’t right, we’re not just going to cover it back up and pretend we haven’t seen it.

So tomorrow’s job has changed slightly…

✅ Support the structure correctly
✅ Remove the inadequate stone bearings
✅ Install the correct padstones
✅ Make sure the steelwork is properly supported
✅ Leave everything safe, sound and above board

This is exactly why opening up existing buildings can sometimes reveal extra work that nobody could have known about beforehand.

Do it once. Do it properly.

We post plenty of bathrooms, kitchens, roofs, refurbs and everything in between — but we don’t actually talk about ourselves very often.

So… meet Alex & Jon. 👷‍♂️👷‍♂️

We’re the faces behind AJS Building & Property Maintenance Ltd — and, depending on the day, we’re either discussing the best way to tackle a job… or arguing about who’s making the next brew. 😂

Between us, we’ve built AJS around a pretty simple idea:

Turn up. Do what we say we’re going to do. Do the job properly. And leave something behind that we’re genuinely proud to put our name to.

We’re not interested in being the cheapest quote through the door.

We’d rather be the company you recommend afterwards.

From the first visit and quotation, right through to organising trades, materials and completing the job, we’re hands-on with our projects. When you book AJS, you’re dealing with us — not a salesman who disappears once you’ve said yes.

“You’ll never believe what was holding this chimney breast up… 😳”

Today in Stocksbridge we removed an internal wall and opened the ceiling ready to prep for the new steel that will properly support the chimney breast above.

And this is what we found…

A section of chimney breast had effectively been left relying on a piece of 3x2 timber for support. 🤦‍♂️

That’s the kind of thing that can sit hidden above a ceiling for years until someone finally opens it up.

The wall is now removed, the area has been checked and prepped, and the next stage is getting the correct steelwork installed so everything is properly supported as it should be.

This is exactly why structural work needs doing properly. It’s not just about making a room look bigger — it’s about understanding what’s above, what’s carrying what, and making sure the new support is right.
