Where do you go when you need to give yourself space to let the creative juices flow?

Do you have a special place you go?

Do you need to be in nature?

Is it more about giving it dedicated time?

Do you need help to process?

✨Your neural networks (the ones that help us think creatively) thrive in certain conditions.

✨When you need the creative juices to flow your brain needs to have freedom to create scenarios, generate ideas or make simulations

👉 Sometimes we just need to go away and do something else

👉 Have a shower, go for a walk or play creatively

❓How do you give your creative thoughts space?

Need breakthrough? Be curious...

1. Look at it from a different angle, maybe ask someone else for their perspective?

2. Test a solution - IRL or run through a scenario in your head, or with your team

3. Find a friend (or use AI if you don't have a friend nearby!) and get them to ask you some questions (as random or serious as you like)

❓Have you tried any of these before?

❓What do you do?

3 reasons I start my day with a little creativity...

1. It reduces any stress I've carried overnight - Research by Kaimal et al. (2016) tells us that just 45 minutes of creative activity significantly lowers the body’s main stress hormone, cortisol.

2. It relaxes my mind, putting me in a 'flow' state as described by Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Letting my hands do all the thinking.

3. Boost my brain ready for the day - according to Bolwerk et al. (2014), regularly engaging in creative tasks enhances brain function and slows cognitive decline

🎉🤯💛

✨Today's creativity = trying to work out a pattern for a top with repurposed fabric

❓Why not try it for yourself?

5 minutes is all it takes to explore creatively and transform your thinking processes.

Here's what I did in my 5 minutes from today:

✨ Picked a photo from my phone as inspiration

✨ Noticed the lines and shapes

✨ Chose 3 colours, then quickly & randomly put the lines and shapes on a page

✨ Noticed what words jumped out at me and wrote them down

❓So what? You might say.

It might be fun but how did it help you?

💛 Well...

1. It relaxed my mind when I felt a bit overwhelmed and not sure where to start today

2. Built my creative confidence (as part of a daily practice) as I allow myself to just play

3. Allowed my mind to wander, lowering stress levels and helping me think more clearly

4. Gave me a mantra for the day to help me move forwards - 'keep it simple and just choose one thing to focus on'

I could go on...!!

A daily creative practice has so many benefits.

What a week! I've had the privilege of working with incredible people on some exciting projects.

💛 And I've been overwhelmed by the kind words, encouragement and gratitude, from people along the way.

We often think creativity is about coming up with the next big idea.

But more often, it's just about seeing differently.

This week reminded me of that.

✨ AND, as I've helped others see their situations from different perspectives and find breakthrough, I've found a fresh way to see myself too.

The wonderful people I've met this week have reflected back the strengths, impact and qualities that I bring to a room. Those things I often overlook or don't see because I look at myself differently

That was my breakthrough 💛

Not a new strategy. Not another idea.

A new way of seeing.

Creative thinking isn't just about solving problems or generating ideas. It's about changing perspective. Sometimes that means looking at a challenge from a different angle. Sometimes it means seeing possibilities you hadn't noticed. And sometimes it means allowing yourself to see yourself through someone else's eyes.

I know there'll be more to reflect, but for now I'm still letting it all sink in.

Thank you to those I've worked with this week for helping me see differently. And thank you to those who have encouraged me along the way 💛

Need to see differently?

Keep following...there's more to come 💛✨

So I went on a hunt 💛

✨Ready to think beyond the obvious
✨Ready to help others think creatively

Or maybe create your own 💛

Don't panic!! It's easy to feel stuck, even if you're doing work you love.

All you need to do is interrupt the loop, stop going round in circles...

Just try this:

1. Step away for 5 minutes and distract yourself with something fun (brew, dance, doodle)

2. Then come back and just notice what question, task, decision jumped out at your first

3. Instead of getting back into the loop, take whatever you spotted first and take the tiniest step to move it forwards

4. Before you move on, congratulate yourself. Give your brain the dopamine it's looking for.

Do this as many times as you need to today.

Did it work for you??

I know how much clearer I think when I step away from my desk, but I don't always do it.

Anyone else not always do what's best for them??😂

Sometimes it's...

✨ Creative play

✨A walk in nature

✨Standing in the sunshine

✨ A reflection with words or images

✨ A dance to a favourite tune

Other times I need a chat, to read or just make a brew.

❓Did you know that our brains love this kind of shift?

A change of background noise, scenery, temperature, what's in your hands - all helps switch to a different mode, to feel restored, relaxed or ready to go again 💛

✅So next time you feel overwhelmed, stuck, unable to make a decision, in need of a mond shift, try one of these.

❓Which is your favourite?

Is your heart full? Is your creativity tank filled to the brim?

Mine certainly is now 💛

I'm just back from a few days in my favourite city (after of course!) - any guesses??

The beauty and brilliance of Gaudi's work across the city.

The creativity abounding in shapes, colours, buildings, nature and the people themselves was, as always, awe inspiring.

And of course the sunshine 💛

Barcelona of course ☀️💛

Expect more reflections on Gaudi's work in the near future, but for now...

What has inspired you recently?

What could you do this weekend to fill your creativity tank?

💛💛💛
