I know today is Monday, but this really is Friday's announcement.

Due to a localised disturbance in the space time continuum centred on the Neepsend area of Sheffield, this is the update that should have appeared last Friday. All I have to is to find where I left Saturday lying around. I found Sunday pretty quickly, but I think that the cats had Saturday and have hidden it somewhere.

Anyway, here is last Friday’s magic order number, which stands at #26164.

I also managed to find last week’s new releases, albeit showing residual traces of feline interference. We are continuing last week’s Ancient Successors with some Hellenistic unarmoured pikemen, both stood and being all aggressive and spikey.
You can find the details here https://www.baccus6mm.com/catalogue/ClassicalWarfare/MacedoniansandSuccessors/

We’ve also added an extra codes to the Achaemenid Persian range, in the form of some Spara infantry lined in rank. These enable you to add a solid front rank to any of the diverse national units forming up in the ranks of the King of Kings.

It’s about this time of year when the juggernaut that is Christmas comes into view. Quite a few of you will have some lovely Baccus figures appearing in your Xmas stockings. If you know that is likely, can I ask you please to get your loved ones to place their orders to us now. We cast all orders to order – we don’t have a huge warehouse full of ready made armies. We need notice in order to get all the presents out in good time.

Finally for today, we can take last minute orders for the Battleground show up until Wednesday of this week.

New Successor codes now available
9th Nov 2023

This is one of those weeks where those pesky, 'technical issues', means that there will be no magic number given out today. The plan is for, 'Normality', to resume next week. In compensatio, we have some honest to goodness new releases to tell you about in the form of the resculpted Successor codes.

These replace the older sculpts which have been giving excellent service for the last couple of decades, but which were in need of an upgrade. The new figures have been brought up to modern standards. The range was previewed last week, and some of the new castings have been displayed over the last few weeks. So, this week I would like to showcase the all new Agema cavalry.

These really are lovely models and I really enjoyed painting them especially working with a purple and yellow scheme for the clothing and equipment.

Two new additions are alternative versions of Theuroporoi and Thracian infantry. They are described as 'skirmishers' but there's more to it than that. More than any other period, the definition of some standard troop types in Ancients rules is open to interpretation of the rules writer. Thus, at one end of the extreme, a unit may be treated simply as, 'Spears', or 'Blades', while at the other end of the spectrum, the same bunch of chaps may become, 'Medium armoured, light heavy infantry with a slightly large shield, short sword ,javelins and heavy thrusting spear.'

As a result, I've tried to cover most options by supplying the new Theurophoroi and Thracians with an option to deploy in a looser formation.

We will have all of the new codes with us at the Warfare show this weekend. If your are thinking of sneaking in a last minute order for collection at the show, then you are too late - the van is packed and we will be travelling down to Farnborough tomorrow.

It's time to pray...
27th Oct 2023

It’s nice to report that we’ve not had a repeat of last week's meteorological shenanigans, and so it’s been relatively ‘normal’. Many thanks to all who wished us well through the deluge. Apart from a day of our village being cut off from the outside world, we came through unscathed, albeit in quite a soggy state.

‘Normal’ means that we have continued to churn order out this week, so I’m happy to announce that this week’s magic order number is #25849.

Moving on, we have last week’s postponed new releases and it will come as no surprise to anyone who read last week’s that we have a pair of clergy in the form a British Priest and a US Priest 105mm self-propelled gun

But just to add a little extra to the new stuff, there are now some fittings for the Churchill AVRE.

A this point your should have also had some teaser pictures of some of our forthcoming Successor resculpts, but that will have to wait another week.

We are at the time of year when we will be attending wargames shows every other weekend until December. The circus starts on Sunday when we’ll be making the short trip to Leeds for Fiasco. If you are planning to be there please do pop round to the stand for a chat.

All of which brings me to this weeks’ reminder to get your advance orders in for any upcoming shows, starting with Warfare on November 11th and 12th. With the short turnaround between events, letting us know what you want is the best way to ensure that you actually do get what you want!

Normal service has been interrupted...
21st Oct 2023

There I was, a perfectly normal Friday, listening to the torrential rain, courtesy of Storm Babet, (who thinks these names up?), when the phone rings. It’s my wife, letting me know that all the local roads are flooded or are in the process of being flooded, and that our son’s school is closing early and I have to go and collect him twenty minutes ago. All of which put a pretty serious crimp in the normal Friday routine that usually consists of photographing new releases and teasers, then adding the former to the shopping cart, establishing the up to date order number and then composing a rambling post with lots of information and the occasional witticism. So…this week things are a little different. However, one thing that I have been able to salvage is an up to date magic order number, which stands at #25803.

What I SHOULD be talking about now is announcing the release of two new models in the WW2 range in the form of the Priest M7 howitzer for the British and US armies. These are really lovely models, probably some of the nicest we’ve released to date, all expertly painted by the Wingco. It would be great for you to see them and even better for you to be able to order them, but, that’s not going to happen. Nor are you able to see a couple of photos of our lovely new Theurophoroi infantry in our redesigned Successors range. Instead, here is a picture of our cats. It’s not quite the same, but I know that to a reasonable percentage of you, it will make a refreshing change from WW2 AFVs…

I realise that after the photos of Wispa and DM, this will be an anti-climax, but can I please ask that any pre-orders for the upcoming Fiasco show get to us sooner rather than earlier. Last minute orders do annoy the casters, and you REALLY don’t want to be around when I have to deal with an annoyed caster.

Something new, something that will soon be new and other waffle...
14th Oct 2023

I’ll start this week by thanking the organisers of last week’s Partizan show. There was a record attendance in terms of visitors and it was certainly the busiest that I’ve ever attended. Thanks also to those of you who dropped by for a chat and the occasional purchase. As ever, it was a pleasure for us to be there.

As usual, before we get on to this week’s new releases, there is the small matter of the magic order number, which this week stands at #25722.

So…what new goodies do we have this week? It’s time to expand the German section of our evergrowing WW2 ranges. This week, we continue the well-worn theme of, ‘Let’s stick something vaguely lethal on to a spare chassis we’ve got lying around’. You have the Möbelwagen for a bit of much-needed AA cover, and a Hummel 15cm self-propelled gun, both lovingly and expertly painted for us by the talented Wing Commander Luddite.

Staying on this topic, at Partizan, I was fielding a lot of questions about our future plans for this period. Well, we are steadily completing the first phase, which is to cover the 1944/45 east and west fronts. We are already well into the planning and commissioning of the next phase which will cover North Africa. Once that is completed, we will move to the middle years of the war before finishing with the first phase of the conflict. Yes, we are working chronologically, but in reverse! Once this is all done and dusted we will turn to the Pacific and Far East. So now, you know as much as we do. Timescale is, well, flexible…

Alongside all of this we will continue to develop the pre-20th century stuff, both new ranges and resculpts and overhauls of older codes. The next range to get a facelift is the Successors, and I hope to release these in mid-November. Here’s a preview of what to expect in the form of a unit of Imitation Legionaries. I’ve chosen to model these with a mix of Roman and Hellenistic armour and weapons, and, if I say so myself, they do scrub up quite nicely.

Elsewhere, the final sculpts for the Great Northern War project are well underway, and these will be the long-awaited cavalry for the Ottoman Turks. We expect to have these out by the end of the year. At that point, the sculptor will make a start on the first models for the Italian Wars range. This is a project that seems to be generating a lot of interest, and we are really looking forward to producing what will be a comprehensive and spectacular collection of figures and flags.

Great Northern War Russians
29th Sep 2023

After last week’s paean lauding the virtues of England’s Steel City, it’s more of a prosaic piece today. ‘Why’, asks one of my regular customers, ‘Do you always announce new releases the day before a wargames show? Even if I know I am going there, it never gives me chance to work out what I want.’

‘Fair enough’, says I, ‘Let’s see what I can do’. And so, this week will see the Partizan show releases available in time for you to actually order them for the show. What a brilliant idea! However, before we get on to all of that excitement, it’s time for a bit of housekeeping in the shape of this week’s order number which stands at #25601. (The usual caution applies that a couple of orders prior to this will miss the cut and will go out next week.)

The big news for this week is the full release of our resculpted and expanded Great Northern War Russian range. These models replace what was one of the oldest set of sculpts in our catalogues and they bring the Russians bang up to modern standards. We’ve finally added Horse Grenadiers to the range, which should cheer the hordes of people who have requested these chaps over the years. Another oft-requested code is the dismounted dragoons wearing Kartuz.

As befits an overhaul of the figures, we’ve also taken the opportunity to update and expand the range of flags available. The existing sheets have been redesigned from scratch using vector format, which gives a much sharper and more detailed end result.

We’ve also added extra sheets covering Strelzy regiments, the 1712 pattern colours for the infantry, and the pre-1712 pattern Dragoon colours.

As with all of our Polemos ranges, we have army and booster packs available, and a boxed set.

All are designed for use with our own GNW rules, but are perfectly suited to other systems. The Russians are also matched with a Swedish force for one of our popular ‘Matched Pair’ sets.

You can find all the details if you click here.
https://www.baccus6mm.com/catalogue/Early18thCentury/GreatNorthernWarRussians/

These figures will feature in one of our ‘Showcase’ videos in the future, but to get an idea of what you can expect, follow this link to check out the video on their Swedish opponents. https://youtu.be/RKk_eKO1UtQ?si=9ktultXXFiwRL1QB

If you would like to order some of these little beauties, or indeed anything else for collection at Partizan, you now have no excuse. You have the time, so use it well!

Finally, it wouldn’t be a weekly update without a little tease, so here are a couple of images of some things that will also make their first appearance at Partizan. More details next week…

Bit of a ramble this week, but do keep reading...

Sheffield is the home of Baccus 6mm and we are steadily changing our packaging to proudly feature the coveted 'Made in Sheffield logo. It’s a city inextricably linked with the Steel industry and the manufacture of cutlery. If your only contact with Sheffield is the wonderful film, ‘The Full Monty’, then your impressions will be of a depressed and run-down place of grime and despair. However, the truth is very different, as our home town is a vibrant bustling place and surprisingly green. Very green indeed, with the highest ratio of trees to population of any city in Europe. If you don’t believe me, try looking at the place on Google Earth.

All of which brings me to the point of this ramble, as driving to work this morning, it’s very apparent that the green leaves are steadily changing colour to a riot of oranges, browns and yellows. Yes, Autumn is upon us, and for the UK at least, that means that the busiest time of the year is upon us.

Between now and December we have five wargames shows over a period of just nine weeks. And that is why you will read posts from me repeatedly asking you to get your orders for collection in to us, preferably in good time. It helps us, as we can make sure that we cast things that will sell, and you because we have things to sell that you want. As the saying goes, ‘What is there not to like?’

We have a full slate of new releases to come over the next few weeks, but before more news on that it’s belatedly the time for this week’s magic order number, which stands at #25538.

So. what’s new? The first set of releases will be the GNW Russians. We’ve nearly completed all the required moulds in anticipation of their debut at the Partizan show, but here’s a couple of previews as we introduce some dismounted Dragoons in Kartuz and the Russian Generals. These really are gorgeous sculpts, full of character and animation.

So what comes next? Staying with the GNW theme, the sculptor is already hard at work on a some cavalry to complete the Ottoman range, and these are expected to appear later this year or early 2024. However, before then, our long-term programme of improving older ranges continues. This time it’s the turn of our dependable, but elderly Successors figures. As is our policy, we’ll not just be replacing the older sculpts, but adding to the existing codes. I will be posting some previews in the coming weeks, and I don’t think you will be disappointed.

As you saw in last week’s post the WW2 range is set for additions and we’ve just had some masters arrive for the next tranche of aircraft. In addition to all this, there is a surprise little project waiting in the wings and, wonder of wonder, a brand new addition to our Polemos publications stable.

All of this, and we’re already well into planning for 2024…

Coming soon to a Baccus shopping cart near you!

I’d like to start this week’s offering by thanking all of the organising team and club members who were involved in the Colours show last weekend. It was really well organised by a team working what is not the easiest of venues to manage. Well done!

Moving on to the housekeeping, this week’s magic order number is #24583. A combination of staff holidays over August, plus some days lost to illness put us behind schedule, but a real effort by the casting team has seen much of that backlog cleared and we are now well on track with getting orders turned around in a reasonable time.

Last week’s Ancient Sumerians has proved to be popular one, and we have got more late bronze age releases planned. However, the next lot of new castings will be from later periods. We are finally getting around to completing the overhaul of the Great Northern War Russian range. There are a lot of goodies in the pipeline, and we are aiming for release of these at the upcoming Other Partizan show in Newark next month. Here’s a preview of the Grenadiers, both on foot and mounted.

We’ll also be releasing a suite of new flagsheets to accompany the figures – in this case for the Dragoons.

Work on the ever-expanding WW2 range continues and after taking a few weeks off over the Summer, you can expect us to be turning the taps on again in the coming weeks. Here’s a look at some of the goodies that you can expect to see.

As mentioned above, we will be at the Other Partizan show in Newark which is a mere three weeks away. It’s therefore time to get those show orders into us to avoid disappointment. You can order via our shopping cart, by email or by calling.

Finally for today, I've been contacted by those awfully nice chaps at Beasts of War. They deal with the 'Tabletop Hobby' as a whole and 6mm tends to be drowned out by the mass of 28mm stuff on the market, but they've posted a really nice piece on the recent release of our Ravenfeast army packs, and it's well worth looking at. You can find it here. https://www.beastsofwar.com/news/baccus-6mm-armies-little-wars-ravenfeast/
