This fantastic vase is such an eye-opener, I had to get it on the turntable for you all to enjoy.

Applied with a fearsome red and gold dragon chasing a flaming pearl while another puce dragon competes from below, accompanied by leaping fish from a turbulent sea, this vase has everything going on.

Bearing a Qianlong seal mark but considered to be later, probably Republic period, this fabulous piece will be one of a select offering of Asian art in our Summer Fine Art auction on 15 June.

Working on a delightful English private collection of Chinese and Korean works, Song to Qing Dynasty, all acquired prior to 1990.
Most feature on an insurance valuation carried out in 1991 which is fascinating to read. It is so interesting to see how academic study has changed our understanding of Chinese art in the last 30 years.

This Chinese taste mantel clock caught our eye during Monday valuations. Well, how could it not? It is quite large but also dripping with detail.
Adapted from an 18th century Dutch Delft vase, probably originally part of a garniture, it has been mounted with wonderful brass castings and a cover surmounted by a rather acrobatic lion dog. The clock movement is French and so too may be the mounts although it bears a striking resemblance to another brass clock we had in our Summer Fine Art auction earlier this year, made by Herbert Mason in circa 1887. There are no maker’s marks on this piece and so it remains unattributed.
Autumn Fine Art auction, 15 September 2021. Estimate £400-600 (+premium).
