There are moments in history when the world feels heavier and fear feels amplified.
The headlines are relentless, but the suffering is real. There’s loss, injustice and uncertainty for many around the world. That deserves space and empathy. 🤍
But our brains are not designed to metabolise global suffering in real time, every hour of every day! That too sandwiched between light entertainment. It isn’t normal.
When we consume distress without pause, the nervous system shifts into hyper-vigilance and anxiety.
Social media compresses the world into a constant highlight reel of crisis, amplifying what’s urgent, shocking, emotionally charged! Why? Because that’s what the algorithm rewards. And that’s what holds attention.
And yet, most of life, even in difficult times…remains human and intimate. There is still good, (albeit quieter) happening around us.
It is simple. What if we acknowledged and appreciated a home-cooked meal, a therapy session that helps you breathe again, or a friend who checks in?
Relishing those things is not denial.
You can care deeply. You can even stay informed. And you can protect your mental state at the same time.
Stepping away from fear-based algorithms isn’t apathy.
It’s choosing to stay grounded in the small, human moments where your love, steadiness, and presence actually make a difference.
And perhaps right now, that is where your energy is most valuable.
With love and compassion,
Selina
