Climate change, natural disasters, conflicts, crises and different emergencies affect children's access to education. UNICEF states that more than 50 million children have been forcibly displaced around the world, mostly after fleeing from armed conflict. Almost half of all school-age refugee children are out of school.
Meanwhile, girls are nearly 2.5 times more likely to be out of school in conflict-affected countries compared to girls in other places. Education in emergencies is a core humanitarian right, essential for safeguarding children’s learning, wellbeing, and future opportunities.

On the morning of 10 August 2026, an earthquake struck western Colombia, with the epicentre located in the municipality of San José del Palmar, Chocó.
The seismic event has been declared a national disaster by the National Risk Management Committee following the death of approximately 175 people, according to the Colombian Association of Capital Cities. Critical impacts have been reported in the capital cities and municipalities of Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Risaralda, Quindío and Caldas. The magnitude and severity of the damage reportedly exceed historical records associated with the 1999 Armenia earthquake.
We are currently assessing the situation in Colombia as we actively plan on our emergency response with the assistance of our local partners. Our thoughts go out to the affected populations, and we stand in solidarity with communities affected by this crisis. Our team remains committed to supporting a coordinated, principled response as the situation evolves.

The earthquake that hit the southern island of Mindanao in the Philippines on June 8 caused multiple injuries and fatalities. On August 5, another earthquake struck the Southern part of Philippines causing further panic and anxiety. The Philippines is one of the most earthquake prone countries in the world due to its location along the Pacific ring of fire, a zone of intense earthquakes and volcanic activity encircling the Pacific Ocean, caused by the movement and subduction of tectonic plates.
As communities in the Philippines continue to navigate the aftermath of the recent earthquakes, our thoughts remain with families facing displacement, loss, and ongoing aftershocks. Recovery is a long process, and sustained solidarity is essential.

Yesterday as the Osman Consulting team we held our annual learning and strategy day where we took time to reflect on last year’s achievements, successes, setbacks and lessons learnt. We managed to discuss our work which is immensely shaped by core Humanitarian Principles in each project we implement. We appreciated the dedication shown by our colleagues who are ready and willing to travel to disaster-stricken areas with enthusiasm and sheer determination. Our recent travels to Venezuela, Sudan, Bosnia and Herzegovina among many other countries have not only strengthened our team but have re-ignited in us a fire to continue showing up in times of crises.
We reflected on our role as a private company within the humanitarian sector, comparing our recent progress with previous years. This included improvements in implementation, learning, policy development, and stakeholder engagement, alongside strong results in compliance, fund optimisation, and the use of lessons learned to inform future programmes. We also considered how stronger grassroots delivery, localised implementation, and context-led design have helped us support the work of many charities and INGOs worldwide.
We are also especially proud of our internally developed customisable monitoring and evaluation tool ATLAS which has been pivotal in the streamlining of our work and we are happy to have complemented our technical expertise with our long-lasting engagement with training and capacity building that now allows us to count more than 270 trained enumerators Worldwide within a network of more than 100 partners around the world.
We are also encouraged by the growth of our seasonal, humanitarian, and disaster management work in South America, as well as by stronger relationships across our network. This progress has been driven by close internal collaboration and a consistent commitment to reviewing and improving our own systems, helping us strengthen innovation and the quality of our work.
As we continue to grow, our focus remains on improving our methods, expanding our reach, and responding quickly in hard-to-reach areas. The next chapter will be shaped by people-centred projects that uphold humanity, independence, neutrality, and impartiality at the heart of our work. To close the day, each team member received a thoughtful internal award recognising their contribution and the role they play in setting a positive direction for the year ahead.

As humanitarian and development workers we ensure that our work is guided by principles such as dignity, neutrality, impartiality and humanity. In May 2026 during Eid al Adha, a significant religious occasion marked by generosity, solidarity, and the sharing of food, we implemented our Qurbani 2026 program in 23 countries to provide timely meat assistance to vulnerable communities.
Through the support from our partners, the programme reached 281,174 rightsholders through the distribution of 65,419 meat portions across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. Support targeted a wide range of vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons, refugees, returnees, orphaned children, persons with disabilities, and host communities.
Eid al‑Adha is a moment of shared generosity, but its values extend far beyond the holiday. The relationships strengthened, the community voices centred, and the lessons learned continue to inform how we design and deliver assistance in different communities globally.

The two strong earthquakes that struck Venezuela within seconds of one another on June 24 have caused widespread damage to homes and buildings in several parts of the country, causing mass casualties, injuries and displacement. The death toll has risen to 4,734 with injuries above 16 000 people according to official figures. Emergency response continues to be a key component of our work at Osman Consulting. Through the provision of humanitarian aid, we continue to contribute to humanitarian efforts in Venezuela by supporting partners, strengthening coordination, and keeping community needs visible. Through the support of our partners, we have carried out needs assessments and we are providing daily essentials such as hygiene kits while promoting principled, people‑centred support.
