Osman Consulting is back in Marrakesh for the second year, partnering with IDEA to deliver training for Moroccan civil society organisations on health interventions during emergencies.

This initiative is part of the strategic direction of both organisations, with a focus on localisation and strengthening the capacity of local institutions to respond effectively to emergencies and crises. The event is being hosted by Cadi Ayyad University.

In 2025, the programme focused on disaster management and coordination. This year, the programme has taken a more specialised approach, focusing on health interventions during emergencies.

The training is attended by around 40 participants, representing a diverse range of civil society organisations and academic institutions.

Our research team at Osman Consulting Ltd. participated in the International Conference on Inequity in Education in Vienna on 25 September. Together with Silvia Diazgranados, the Director of ERICC, we led a thematic panel on Conflict, Humanitarianism and Lost Generations, sharing evidence from our work in the Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Crises (ERICC) programme, funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The panel brought forward rich discussions grounded in three ERICC papers produced by our team, examining how conflict shapes educational inequality and how education systems can either reproduce or mitigate the risk of a lost generation.

It was encouraging to see strong interest from researchers, practitioners, and policymakers committed to building more equitable education systems in crisis‑affected contexts.

Osman Consulting recently conducted a field visit to the Southern Philippines to oversee the distribution of emergency shelter assistance to communities affected by the earthquake and subsequent flooding.

As part of the response, 440 family tents, along with additional essential shelter items, were distributed to affected families, helping provide safer and more dignified temporary shelter as communities continue to recover.

Our visit focused on supervising the distribution process, engaging directly with affected communities and our local partner, and ensuring that assistance reached families in a timely, accountable, and dignified manner.

Beyond the numbers, the visit was an important opportunity to hear directly from families about the challenges they continue to face and to better understand their priorities as they rebuild their lives.

Our team at Osman Consulting leads the Syria Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Crises (ERICC) as part of the wider ERICC Research Consortium. During the BAICE conference in Glasgow, Scotland, we had the opportunity to present our ERICC research findings on how localisation through community led initiatives has promoted sustainable education provision in conflict affected areas. This has been made possible through mobilising practices associated with the Social and Solidarity Economy in Syria to keep learning spaces open, to support teachers, and to protect children’s right to education despite crisis.

Our research team at Osman Consulting was in Glasgow from the 3rd to the 5th of September at the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE) conference. We joined scholars, civil society organisations, schools, and youth groups to explore critical issues in comparative and international education (CIE).

Climate change, natural disasters, conflicts, crises and different emergencies affect children's access to education. UNICEF states that more than 50 million children have been forcibly displaced around the world, mostly after fleeing from armed conflict. Almost half of all school-age refugee children are out of school.
Meanwhile, girls are nearly 2.5 times more likely to be out of school in conflict-affected countries compared to girls in other places. Education in emergencies is a core humanitarian right, essential for safeguarding children’s learning, wellbeing, and future opportunities.

On the morning of 10 August 2026, an earthquake struck western Colombia, with the epicentre located in the municipality of San José del Palmar, Chocó.
The seismic event has been declared a national disaster by the National Risk Management Committee following the death of approximately 175 people, according to the Colombian Association of Capital Cities. Critical impacts have been reported in the capital cities and municipalities of Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Risaralda, Quindío and Caldas. The magnitude and severity of the damage reportedly exceed historical records associated with the 1999 Armenia earthquake.
We are currently assessing the situation in Colombia as we actively plan on our emergency response with the assistance of our local partners. Our thoughts go out to the affected populations, and we stand in solidarity with communities affected by this crisis. Our team remains committed to supporting a coordinated, principled response as the situation evolves.
