🤓 McTimoney Masters Weekend 🤓

What a super busy and insightful weekend its been! Spending the two days watching for conformation and completing gait assessments, I particularly enjoyed the hands on painting of the musculature onto the horse 🐴 having the muscles highlighted on the skin really helps you understand how each one works individually and as a group, working to complete an action on a limb or body part.

As a therapist, watching the muscles move above the skin allows us to…
⭐️ assess muscular asymmetries
⭐️ locate any areas of restricted movement
⭐️ understand how one muscle can effect the others

How does this allow me to help you and your four legged friends? Well… it allows me to
🐴 locate and reduce muscle tension
🐴 increase range of motion (RoM) in the joints
🐴 determine any asymmetries within the muscles and treat
🐴 increase flexibility

If you feel your horse or pony might need any of the above, feel free to get in touch today!

❄️ Keeping your horses safe in the cold ❄️

After this weeks flurry of snow, your normal routine may change slightly.

To keep your four legged friends safe and healthy, here’s a few tips for battling the cold weather 🥶

🐴 Keep them hydrated! This can be done by adding some warm water to their water buckets or hard feed, or even adding sugar free apple juice. Bring dehydrated can cause a number of problems such as colic and can even hinder the healing process on injuries
🐴 Check to e how hard the ground is before working; anything more than walk and a small amount of trot on solid ground can cause injury to the lower leg
🐴 Keep them warm - if your pony often struggles with being cold backed or has ongoing muscle soreness issues, keep them warm to keep the blood flowing
🐴 If it’s safe to let them have turnout, do it! It reduces the risk of impaction colic and can keep them mentally stimulated

If you’re finding musvle soreness after this cold spell, get in touch and let me help ❤️

CPD Day! 🤓

All of the tech out to play for last nights CPD webinar by Centaur Biomechanics Dr Russell MacKechnie-Guire. An absolutely enthralling session discussing the biomechanical effects that the use of ground and raised poles have.

All of this information will be used to maximise the effectiveness of my rehabilitation programmes (however depending on the individual), I’m always striving to push myself to learn to improve my services for all my lovely future clients.

If you’re curious about how these methods could be used to help your fury friends, feel free to get in touch and I’ll help in any and every way I can 🐴

Its so important to think of yourself and your position as a rider. The horse and rider are a true partnership, physically connected. You might be surprised by how significant the effects you have on one another can be. Personally I am seriously into the horse and rider relationship, having touched on the topic for my undergrad dissertation and planning on doing the same thing for my masters dissertation 🤓 watch this space, Russell has some super stuff in the bag 🐴

**THURSDAY RESEARCH MEME**

Todays research meme features some of our rider based research. In this study we looked at a group of riders, all of which were right handed. Despite the perception of sitting equally, there was increased weight on the left seat bone. How does this translate to when riding (paper on the way)? Whilst we may have a perception of sitting equally, maybe we have a preference to weight one side more than the other. This reinforces the importance of working with riders “off-horse” to improve their proprioception, awareness and symmetry…. which can then be transferred to when riding. 🤓
