From protecting ancient woodlands and supporting wildlife to helping keep the park safe and enjoyable for everyone, her work helps safeguard the Lake District for future generations.

To make these important decisions, Olivia relies on trusted OS location data to understand and manage thousands of trees across the national park. 🌳

Former OS Data Engineer Georgie Baker has just completed an extraordinary challenge, running from London to Asia to raise funds for ocean conservation charity Blue Marine Foundation. 🌍🏃‍♀️

Setting off from Tower Bridge on 25 April, Georgie spent 99 days crossing Europe before reaching the Asian side of Istanbul on 1 August. Along the way, she:

📍 Ran 4,500km
📍 Crossed 10 countries
📍 Climbed 84,752m of elevation
📍 Averaged 45.5km per day (the equivalent of an ultra marathon every day)
📍 Tackled everything from mountain snow to remote wilderness trails

Choosing the wilder route wherever possible, Georgie's journey took her through national parks, mountain ranges and the entire Carpathian range, all while raising awareness and support for the protection of our oceans.

The challenge was supported by her partner Ben, who followed the route in a self-converted van while balancing the logistics of the expedition and writing his PhD thesis.

We're incredibly proud to share Georgie's story and celebrate this remarkable achievement. 👏

The recent New Forest wildfire was not far from our Southampton office.

Many people know OS maps for helping them explore the outdoors, but our maps and location data can also help support emergency services and other responders during incidents like this.

These satellite images reveal the scale of the damage, highlighting scorched landscapes, lost habitats and the impact on the environment.

Colour infrared imagery helps make burn scars and affected vegetation clearly visible. When combined with OS mapping, it provides valuable context, showing how the fire relates to surrounding landscapes and where homes, buildings and roads are located.

Together, satellite imagery and mapping can help build a clearer picture of conditions on the ground to support decision making.

OS Champion Sue, watched it from Highcliffe Castle Beach with a trusty colander: "There was a moment when the birds suddenly flew into the trees lining the beach, the sea appeared to calm and a quietness fell as we angled the colander and looked through a pin hole cereal box at the mini eclipses. There were great views from the beach to the Isle of Wight and it was worth doing the 118 steps down and back up for the location."
