Some news we’re very happy to share: Jill has been named a finalist in the Lifetime Legend category at this year’s Female Business Awards , celebrating the brilliance of female-led businesses across the UK.

The awards recognise the passion, energy and commitment it takes to build and support small businesses: work that so often happens without much fanfare.

Anyone who has joined ORB will know something of what makes Jill so deserving of this recognition. Every member starts with a Zoom call with Jill, and from that first conversation, her enthusiasm and genuine interest in people are clear. She remembers an extraordinary amount about our members, their businesses and what matters to them and she brings that same care to everything she does.

For many years, Jill has worked tirelessly in support of small and responsible businesses. Behind the scenes, our Board and Member Council see just how many hours she pours into ORB and the Responsible Business Standard, always looking for ways to support our members and strengthen the work we do.

So it feels particularly special to see that commitment recognised.

ORB CEO Jill Poet will be hosting a free lunch and learn on Monday 24 August. The subject is a question we hear from small and micro business owners increasingly often: “What if B Corp isn’t the right fit for us?”

Jill will introduce the Responsible Business Standard (RBS), an ESG framework developed in conjunction with, and validated by, Anglia Ruskin University.

Crucially, the RBS was designed specifically for small businesses from sole proprietors upwards. It recognises that every small business is unique and that we aren’t big businesses “in miniature”.

Jill knows this well. She has spent decades working with AND running small businesses, co-launching ORB in 2010. In 2022 she and her co-founder Mike gifted the company to its membership and today, ORB is a thriving member-owned organisation.
