Growing up in Leigh-on-sea was great!
This is a video of us trying to educate (fairly poorly) people on the Estuary. Here are some facts;

📍Where it Meets the ThamesThe estuary at Leigh sits on the northern side of the Thames Estuary.It’s the point where the Thames stops being a river and becomes open tidal water.Opposite Leigh you’ve got Kent, with the estuary stretching out toward Sheerness and Isle of Grain.

🌊 Tides & MudflatsLeigh has one of the biggest tidal ranges in the UK.At low tide, the water pulls right back, exposing the mudflats — perfect for fishing, cockling, and wildlife.At high tide, the whole front fills up and looks like a calm coastal bay.
🦪 Cockling & Fishing HistoryLeigh is famous for its cockle sheds — a tradition going back over 600 years.The estuary’s nutrient‑rich mud makes it one of the best cockling grounds in the country.
