🌿 Gardeners in Action This Week! 🌿

Our gardening team has been hard at work keeping the grounds looking their best. Here’s a little glimpse of what they’ve been up to:

🌱 George has been busy putting out new plant labels and giving the hedges a tidy trim.
💧 Edyta has been keeping everything well-watered — especially important in this heat — and has been planting up pots ready for our summer beds.
🚜 Gethin and Dylan have been out cutting the grass, keeping our lawns neat and fresh.
🥕 Les has been tending to his veg patch, making sure everything is growing beautifully.

A huge thank you to the whole team for their hard work and dedication. The gardens are looking fantastic! 🌼🌿✨

🌷 Recently, our very own Andy, Garden Curator and Plant Specialist, has been presented with the prestigious Carlo Naef Award 2026 — a recognition given for lifetime contribution to the bulb industry. 🌱

With almost 30 years at Springfields, Andy's encyclopaedic knowledge of plants — and in particular our beloved spring flowering bulbs — has enriched the gardens and delighted visitors for decades. This honour is so very well deserved.

‘Andy has been working at Springfields Gardens for almost 30 years, approaching half the number of years the gardens have been open. This is quite some achievement. His outstanding knowledge of plants, including our speciality, spring flowering bulbs, has served the gardens and the visiting public extremely well. If you need to know anything about anything in the gardens, ask Andy! His longstanding commitment to the gardens and Springfields charity has resulted in the Society’s Trustees being delighted to present The Carlo Naef Award 2026 to Andy Boyton.’ — Adrian Jansen, Chairman of Trustees, Springfields Horticultural Society

We were also truly honoured to be joined on the day by Jill Naef, granddaughter of Carlo Naef himself, who presented Andy with the award in person. What a wonderfully special occasion — and how fitting that Jill could be with us to share in this moment.

💚 We are celebrating Andy's achievement alongside our charity's 60th anniversary — what a milestone year for Springfields!

🎉 Please join us in congratulating Andy on this richly deserved recognition. We are so proud to have him as part of our Springfields family. 🌱

🌿 Immersive Storytelling Event this weekend ☀️

With temperatures set to soar this half term, there's no better place to be than beneath a cool woodland canopy — with a story or two for good measure 🌳

Our Immersive Storytelling Event taking place within the Gardens is the perfect escape for families looking for magical entertainment away from the heat. Our storyteller accompanied by musician will be weaving enchanting tales for little ones and big ones alike, nestled among the trees.

After the 30-minute session, take your time exploring the gardens and don't miss a visit to our bird hide — a lovely way to round off your visit 🐦

Take a guided Evening Tree Walk around Springfields Gardens to learn about the remarkable trees and their rich history on this 15 acre site.

Discover the hidden world of Springfields Gardens after hours with our exclusive Evening Tree Walk!

Join our Garden Curator and Plant Specialist Andy, alongside resident tree surgeon George, for a captivating 90-minute guided walk through the gardens as the sun goes down. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge about the remarkable trees and rich history of the site — from identifying species to sharing fascinating stories you won't find on any information board.

This is a rare opportunity to experience the gardens in a whole new light — quite literally — in the peaceful quiet of the evening, after the gates have closed to the public.

🗓 When: Arrival from 5.45pm with the walk beginning promptly at 6:00pm
⏱ Duration: 90 minutes
