Tree planting – good PR or good strategy?

Let’s be honest – it looks great.

Hi-vis vests. Muddy wellies. Rows of saplings. A perfect photo for the annual impact report.

But here’s what we hear behind the scenes:

“Our competitors are doing it. Should we be?”

It’s a fair question. Tree planting is tangible. It’s easy to explain. And it sends a quick message: “We care.”

But caring and credibility aren’t the same thing.
🌳 Not all schemes are equal.
🌳 Some trees don’t make it past year one.
🌳 And the terms “net zero”, “carbon neutral”, and “offsetting” are often used without clarity – which can lead to confusion or reputational risk.

The truth? The right approach depends on your business. Your goals. Your customers.

Some of the most powerful offsetting projects we’ve seen recently had nothing to do with trees:
– Solar cookers that cut emissions and improve health in refugee communities
