“You have air in your system.” - What do we mean?

Heating systems should contain only water. If your system has air in it, it could already be causing a problem or cause future issues in the system and therefore it needs to be removed.

For your system to be running as efficiently as possible, only water should be present in pipework and radiators. If you have air in your system it will not work efficiently. This could either present itself by creating bubbling noises in the radiator, or the top of your radiators will be cool. There could be a simple solution for this which is to bleed the radiators. If this doesn't solve the issue or the symptoms come back then you may need an engineer to come and take a look at the system incase there is a bigger problem.

Spring is here, and it's the perfect time to give your Aga or Rayburn some TLC! 🌸 Here are a few tips to help your cooker shine 🌟:

Hotplates/Ovens

- Any carbonised spills/splatters can be removed with a wire brush
- Using a wire brush regularly will help to ensure good contact with your AGA kettle and pans
- Season the ovens and hotplates by occasionally spraying on vegetable oil (corn oil is best)

Lids/Linings

- Wipe the lid before you close the lid so splashes don't get baked on. Or, use a Splashshield
- Boil your AGA kettle with the spout facing the lid. The steam will help to lift and loosen any grease
- When cleaning the lids use circular motions so that any small scratches will blend in

Enamel

- Use a specific enamel cleaner to prevent from damaging the coating. Never use an 'oven cleaner' on enamel
- Dry any condensation on the enamel otherwise it could be permanently discoloured
- Milk or anything acidic should be wiped off quickly to prevent damage to the enamel

Doors

- Remove the door and place, front down, on a protected worksurface for easier access
- Don't immerse doors in water as they are filled with insulation and will get damaged
- Use hot soapy water or a cream cleanser - elbow grease may be needed
- Dry off the doors before carefully replacing on their hinges

A little spring cleaning can go a long way in keeping your Aga or Rayburn running smoothly for the months ahead. 🌿✨

Did you know - there are three types of boiler system! 🤨

Find out below what they are and which one you should pick…

Combination (or ‘combi’) boiler - the boiler heats the hot water as you need it. There are no storage tanks as the boiler is connected to the water mains. This is efficient and makes it ideal for properties with limited space as the separate cylinder is not needed. Combi boilers are best suited to homes with a single bathroom.

System - the boiler works together with a hot-water cylinder but may not need tanks (usually in the loft) as the system can be filled directly from the water mains. Homes which need larger supplies of hot water (for example, those with several bathrooms) are usually better suited to a system boiler or open-vent boiler with an adequately sized cylinder. Systems with cylinders benefit from having a back-up electric immersion heater within the cylinder. This means you can still have hot water if your boiler breaks down.

Open-vent - traditional systems that are normally found in older houses. They work alongside a separate hot-water cylinder (usually found in the airing cupboard) and need tanks (normally in the loft) to store cold water.

🌸🌿 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗼𝘇𝘆 & 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁! 🌿🌸

As the weather warms up, it’s easy to forget about your heating system, but it’s still important to keep your space comfortable and energy-efficient. Here are a few tips to get the best of both worlds this spring:

1. 🌞 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻 – Open curtains and blinds during the day to let natural sunlight heat your home. It’s an easy (and free) way to keep things cozy!
2. 🔄 𝗔𝗱𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁 – As the sun rises earlier and sets later, adjust your heating programme from its winter setting to potentially save on a few hours of heating.
3. 🔧 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 - Make sure you get your gas or oil boiler serviced over the spring. Doing so will ensure it runs as efficiently as possible when you turn your central heating back on in the Autumn.
4. 💧 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 - Make sure your water cylinder thermostat is no higher than 60℃.
5. 🏠 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝘀 – Keep warm air in and chilly air out by sealing windows and doors where drafts could sneak in.

Small steps today = a more energy-efficient tomorrow. 🌱 Stay cozy without overworking your system this spring! 🌷
